2023 Game 45: Twins at LAAAAAngels

Tonight the Twins continue their L.A. trip, starting a series against the Angels. They'll get to face Ohtani on Sunday, so hopefully they can pick up a few at the start of the series. They looked good against the Dodgers, even though the results didn't work out the right way.

Tonight Joe Ryan, who is good, pitches against Reid Detmers, who hasn't been as good. So that's promising.

  1. wow, defensive brain fart there. proper relay would have nailed him by 25 feet

  2. Relief pitchers are a fickle lot. One year they are lights out, the next they are bums

    1. I mean, it was a 2-run inning and ball 4 to Ohtani easily could have gone the other way. He’s not the best guy in the bullpen, but if you get in enough 1-run games, you’re gonna lose some of ‘em.

Also, if MAT hits the ball one foot higher, it would have been a two-run lead instead of a one-run lead and who knows.

All I’m saying is that it was a close game, and I think they’ll be ok.

  3. Does anyone know if WPA has been adjusted for the 3-hitter minimum rule? Teams started going match-up crazy because it worked, so I have to imagine that late-game scoring is up and that WPA is overstated for teams with a lead if you include data from far enough back without making any adjustments.
