Been awhile since we've done one of these. Plenty of time to watch shows and movies this week. Any plans to go to the movies with the fam? Any particular traditions you enjoy watching together during the holiday?
And what else have you been watching?
Runner daughter and I have been watching The Penguin; after 5 episodes, we're curious how it's going to work out.
What We Do in the Shadows final season continues to fill the bill, although a resent episode was a bit too realistic for my taste...
I've been re-watching the series before I get to the final season. Best comedy of the last decade, at least.
Yeah, I think it's been my favorite since The Good Place.
Oh, also, Mrs Runner ordered a bunch of Christmas gifts for a charity, and while she was at it she signed up for free Amazon Prime trial, so I imagine I'll be hitting their offerings during the holiday weekend.
Check out The Patriot on Prime. Great show.
Our only watching/listening tradition this week is to listed to Alice's Restaurant Massacre. Back in the day KQRS played it on Thanksgiving morning and we have carried on the tradition.
I watched the first season of Silo and enjoyed it. The second season premiered two weeks ago but I'm going to wait until this season is nearly over to resubscribe to Apple TV+ because its final episode airs the same day Severance returns.
Looking forward to seeing the second season of Severance. I'm worried it's going to be a show that poses more questions than it satisfactorily answers.
yeah, I hope it doesn't turn into Lost that way.
The first two episodes have been enjoyable.
TV
Shrinking: Season 2 is more of the same. Harrison Ford and Jessica Williams are fantastic. I want to murder Segel's character. Watching him is how I imagine doctors feel watching ER or Grey's.
Ghosts: I was skeptical of the US version going in, but I'd say pound for pound it's as good as the UK version, just in different ways.
Somebody Somewhere: I'm so in love with this. So many shows rely on contrivance and cliffhangers. This is just beautiful and heartwarming slice of life.
Abbott Elementary: Great when it focuses on anybody except Janine. I understand the main character has to have flaws, but they should also grow over time. The same annoying flaw for years isn't fun to watch.
Movie
It's What's Inside: Surprisingly enjoyable Black Mirror type mindeff horror/comedy.
Also, we'll finish the final six episodes of Cobra Kai at some point, just because of the investment, but man it's gotten stale.
Looking forward to Squid Game in December.
We've been doing a lot of TV shows lately.
The Middle - A lot of my family loves this one. It's alright as far as family sitcoms go. Fun enough and appropriate enough that we can watch it with the kids.
Schitt's Creek - I didn't really enjoy this one the first time I watched a handful of episodes, but Philosfette decided to give it a try some evening when nothing else sounded good. We just wrapped Season 1 and I think I'd go back for Season 2. Definitely more enjoyable now than it was the first time.
ST:TNG - Season 2 with the 2 oldest kids is almost finished. We watch maybe an episode every week or two, depending on how busy they are. It's nice sharing this one with them since I got into it at about their same age.
A Man On The Inside - I've only watched 1 episode so far, but it feels so good to have a Michael Schur show to watch again. The Good Place and Parks and Rec remain my two favorite shows of all time, so this has me completely excited.
Speaking of The Good Place, I'm pretty sure Aquinas and a friend are going to be doing the pilot episode as a Duo piece in speech this year. Very exciting for me.
KAOS - This was more enjoyable than I thought it would be, and the world they created is distinct enough from the Rick Riordian style stories that I was engaged and interested. A bummer that it didn't get renewed, but I'd say the season is worth watching.
Umbrella Academy - Seasons 3 and 4. I didn't hate Season 4 nearly as much as most people. But Season 3 was pretty awful. I would have liked a slightly happier ending, and maybe a little more overt examination of Reginald's raison d'etre throughout the 2 seasons.
Did anyone see Dracula on Netflix? It was a three episode "series that came out in 2020 on Netflix. Made by the same team that did the Sherlock Holmes series with Benedict Cumberbatch.
It was pretty decent. The first episode was creepy a.f. The twisty end was ok. Definitely worth checking out if you like the Dracula story.
Also Godzilla Minus One is fantastic. Earlier November, there was a short theatrical release with the entire movie in black in white. Very coo.
