Game 81, halfway through the season so we can take stock of the 2023 Twins team: Good starting pitching. Ass bats. ok bullpen. (Imagine you all get insight like that without a subscription to the Athletic.)
Twins in the second game against the first place Atlanta team. Bryce Elder on the mound for Atlanta and he's a rookie who's done a real nice job this year. It's the Joe Ryan Express for the Twins and let's hope he continues with his excellent ways.
First Pitch 6:20p
Interesting. If I listen on the mlb.com feed, I'm a minute or two behind the TV. If I listen on the SiriusXM feed, I'm another minute or so behind. But if I just listen on my good old terrestrial radio, I'm actually ahead of the TV feed.
And if you listen on your extraterrestrial radio, you'll get the Cubs game!
I'd have thought I'd get the Astros.
Ha!
An early lead is always helpful. And the contact play actually worked!
TWINS BASEBALL!!!!
So much for the lead. Which, sadly, also seems to be Twins baseball.
Zero pitches is how long that lead lasted.
I have a feeling Ryan isn't going to pitch a complete game tonight.
If I'd stayed with the SiriusXM app, the Twins might still be ahead right now.
My goodness. Ryan's ERA is going up tonight.
I was starting to wonder if Ryan was tipping his pitches, but Dazzle says he just isn't making good pitches.
Why not both?
Could be, I suppose.
The pitch to Riley was letter high on the outer middle. But the triple was at the bottom of the zone and Acuña's was a good pitch.
Murphy got a center cut meatball, however.
This lineup is loaded.
Yes, it is. You see a team like this and you realize that, even if they manage to make the playoffs, the Twins are a long way from being able to match up with the big boys.
Every year watching the playoffs I think man, the Twins are a long ways away from these teams.
Gameday has the Riley and Murphy pitches at the same relative height. I can't quickly get absolute height however.
This is a sad inning
Not like Ryan has exactly been grooving pitches either.
Gallo's hit sounds like a Yakety Sax play.
Looked like it, too.
It's getting late really early tonight.
What's the record for most home runs given up in a game?
Six
Only one away from it!
Any chance this game could get rained out?
how about smoked out? 😏
this poor joke would make more sense if the game was being played in the midwest.
welp.
Joe never walked anyone...and the Twins have 4 less errors than the Braves...
welp..
(i had to add the extra period because i had said that before.)
Tonkin pitching. Old friend alert.
Correa up with .161 with RISP and I'm poking him like "do something".
not that.
FFS.
Rally ti...who am I kidding?
welp...
