2012 Twins Game Recaps

Game 120: Twins 1, Mariners 5

Deduno finally picked up a big league loss by going 6 innings with 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 6 walks - the fifth of which pushed across the first Seattle run.

The Good: Glen Perkins pitched a scoreless 8th, striking out the side. 

The Bad: The Twins managed 7 hits and took 5 walks in the game, but went 0-10 with RISP. Their lone run came on a Plouffe! sacrifice fly.

The Ugly: Ron Gardenhire - Jeff Gray came into the game in the bottom of the 7th with the Twins trailing by 1 run and Mountie, Donut and Plouffe! due up in the top of the 8th. He managed to give up 3 runs on 4 hits including a 2-run homerun and 2 doubles, walk a batter and essentially bury any chance the Twins had a making things interesting in the last two innings.

The Twins were swept in Seattle, have lost 5 in a row and 9 of their last 10 and currently sit 15 games behind the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central. They have the worst record it the American League and 4th worst in baseball. Only the Cubs, Rockies and Astros are in worse shape.

Game 114: Tampa Bay 7, Minnesota 3

They lost again today, their fifth in a row. Needless to say, they were swept in  a 3 game series by the Devil Rays. Diamond picked up a no decision, Burnett took the loss. Morneau hit a 2-run homer, his 16th and Span injured his shoulder on a sprawling attempt at a catch in short center. MRI for him is pending...which means he'll be on the shelf for a couple of days, they'll run him out there on Wed or Thurs, and then figure out that he he's injured or tore something and will end up on the DL for an additional 15 days. OR maybe he's fine.

The Twins are now 49-65, tied with Kansas City for last in the AL Central (13.5 games behind the Chicago White Sox).

Game 108: Twins 4, Red Sox 6

The Twins missed a series sweep at Fenway by one game. According to someone, they last swept the BoSox in Boston in our World Championship year of 1991. They managed only 6 hits but recorded 3 runs in the top of the 9th (HR's by Willingham (28!) and Doumit (11)) to make the finale interesting.

Revere extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a single leading off the first - the longest hitting streak since ii made it to 23 games in 2007. He's currently batting .323/.354/.383 and is a staple in the lineup since being recalled from AAA, playing in 73 games for the Twins this season and starting in center on Sunday. He also had a really nice over-the-shoulder catch and completed a double play with his throw to second.

In other news, Blackburn wasn't very good - pitching 5 innings and allowing 9 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 4.

Before the game, the Twins traded Danny Valencia to the Red Sox for outfielder and 21-year-old prospect Jeremias Pineda. Juicy was immediately sent to AAA Pawtucket. There are rumors that Nishioka has been recalled. I didn't really care to confirm.

Game 95: Twins 7, Royals 5

Doumit hit homeruns from both sides of the plate, went 3-4 and drove in 4 runs. Deduno earned his first major league "W" going 6.1 innings and allowing only 1 earned run. Swarzak and Perkins both gave up homeruns. The Twins beat the original Jeremy, recently acquired by the Royals from Colorado for Jonathon Sanchez.

The Twins take the series 2-1 and are now 40-55, a half-game back of the Royals.

Game 89: Orioles 7, Twins 19!

Couldn't leave that one without a recap, though I did not see it or hear much of it.

Twins scored 7 runs in the bottom of the first, added 1 in the second, 2 in the third and another in the fourth. It wasn't until the fifth that they failed to score during the home-half of an inning. Meanwhile, Baltimore didn't put up a crooked number until the fifth and Diamond did what he had to do with all of the run support: finished 6 innings and allowing 5 runs on 9 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1.

Every Twins starter had a hit except Doumit who still managed to pick up 2 RBI and a run scored. Morneau went 4-5 to continue his hit streak as did Plouffe. Span only managed 5 RBI on 3 hits including 2 doubles. Mauer jacked a donger, just because he felt like it.

Oh, and just for fun, the Twins added 5 more runs in the 8th to get that nice round number - 20 hits on the night.

Thome did not hit.

Capps gave up a 2-run homer to Chavez and is hurt again.

Game 88: Athletics 9, Twins 4

Long balls v. no balls....long balls win.

Parker gets the win after his guys managed a cumulative 13 hits off of 5 different pitchers (out of 7 total used by the home club) including 4 more homeruns*.

Duensing gets the loss after a 41 pitch first and a total of 7 earned runs during his 2 completed innings. Poor shlub even walked in a run.

The Twins are now 36-52 (and a ghastly 17-28 at home) and 13 games behind the AL Central leading White Sox.

Good news:

Justin Morneau extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the sixth.

Zach Parise threw out the first pitch before the game. That's right - the Wild signed a couple of amazing free agents this off season. Bring on the snow!

2012 Twins Game Recaps

Game 82: Twins 3, Tigers 7

These games are bound to happen. The Twins relief corps have been pretty effective this year. Not so much today. After 7 mostly sharp innings by Diamond, Gardy gave the ball to Burnett who gave up the tying run. Robertson then hung a 1-0 slider which Fielder smashed out for a three run homer.

The Twins had 15 hits in the game. They also had three men thrown out at home.
