Game 11: Mets at Twins

Okay, fine. Those poor fans last night deserved their free hot chocolate...

Scott Diamond gets his first start of the season this afternoon. He's on my fantasy team, so I'm hoping for a two hit shutout and expecting something mildly Halladay-ish (unfortunately, I'm talking 2013-era Halladay, so...). The Mets are sending out Matt Harvey, who looks something like the exact opposite of the type of pitcher the Twins batters want to be facing right now - lots of strikeouts, and lots of fly balls. Hicks ought to have fun with that.

Either way, it has to be better than last night, right?

Game 5: Twins @ O’s

It was a long wait for baseball to return. I missed it more than one might think, considering my team of choice's biggest accomplishment over the last two years was that they avoided losing 100 games. I don't know exactly what my expectations for this year are, but so far they've been exceeding them. As long as they keep playing games that stay interesting beyond the fourth inning, it'll be an improvement over last season, anyway.

Vance Worley makes his second start this evening. He was one of maybe fifteen people crazy enough to be at the Opening Day game in short sleeves, and that endears him to me. Let's see if he can shut down Barry Bonds Chris Davis, and whether or not he can give the bullpen a little bit of a breather. His opponent is...Chris Tillman. Tillman took a huge leap forward in ERA last year while only improving his xFIP a half run or so. He would seem like a prime target for a bit of regression, let's see to that.

2012 Twins Game Recaps

Game 158: Well, that’s done and over with.

I was pretty sure what kind of game I was getting when I saw the pitching matchup, but the game ended up being a lot more interesting than I would've believed it could be.

The seats (Section 110, row 5) were excellent. Target Field really doesn't have any bad seats, but these seats are solidly above any of the other ones I've sat in there. The day itself was gorgeous - perfect temperature, just the slightest of breezes, clear sky. The crowd was sort of docile (except for the obnoxious Tigers fan who started an 'M-V-P!' chant as Miggy circled the bases. after his backbreaker. It was a great game experience.

I just wish the result would've been better.

Notes:

* Doumit's home run was an agonizer, because it was hard to tell whether or not it was going to make it. It's always fun to see a home run live, but that one was even better.
* What exactly is it about Al Alburquerque?
* I noticed this at the last game I was at, but "When the Levee Breaks" is probably the most ominous "crap is about to go down" walkup music ever. Nice call by Plouffe.
* Linds wore her Morneau shirt without getting harassed this time. That's a plus, I suppose.

Game 158: Tigers @ Twins

It's Linds and I's fifth anniversary today, so we're going to be sitting right up close to the first base line for this one. The good news is that we'll get to see one of the best pitchers in the major leagues, the bad news is that he'll be pitching against us.

Justin Verlander takes on (digs hand in starting rotation box and pulls out random slip of paper) P.J. Walters.

Oh, yeah. This should be wonderful.

It's the last Saturday game of the year. I expect this game log to be packed when I get home.

Deduno takes on Fister. This game is sort of a 'must win' for the Tigres, so i'd love to see them lose it. We'kre coming to the bitter end here. It's tremendously unlikely that the Hammer is going to gain another spot on th countup, so about the only things we have left are Mauer's hopeful batting title, and the chance to spoil other teams' playoff chances.

That's cool, too, I guess.
