GLORYHAMMER – THE UNICORN INVASION OF DUNDEE

So, some while back Cheaptoy posted a Gloryhammer video. I’m not sure if it was that one or a FMD somewhere along the way, but they’ve been on my radar since.

I find this particular power metal genre both largely ridiculous and also juuust about right kind of sound and intensity for a good workout, which is when I do most of my Pandora listening.

There’s something amusing to me about looking like I’m having a serious gym session, but the song that only I can hear includes the phrase “An army of undead unicorns/Are riding into the fray...”

Cake – The Distance

I first heard this one back in the day when the guys putting our HS wrestling banquet video together used it for my montage of highlights, but I’d never actually seen this video. Looks about like I should have imagined.

Work today, class tonight. I really like going to school again, but sometimes it feels a bit like this.

The Struts – Could Have Been Me

Fun to play DJ this week, and encouraging that I was able to put up a couple bands that haven't seen our video page yet. The Struts are another fun one. High-energy, fabulous English rock. The whole album is pretty enjoyable if you're in to that sort thing.

Thanks, all.

Børns – 10,000 Emerald Pools

I ran across this Børns album last year, Dopamine, which is the song I’d rather play, but could find no good video. Anyway, the whole album is, I wouldn’t say “love songs” exactly, but “in love” songs, or “odes,” maybe. They make me think of the love of my life, with whom I now have counseling appointments on Thurdsays, because, well, the feeling isn’t exactly mutual.

FMD – SELF-CARE MUSIC

Given CH's FKB this week, is there a particular song or genre that relieves your stress or helps put you back in a functional state of mind?

Not holding myself to anything, but somewhere back in the day while deployed I pulled a burned CD of Jimmy Buffet songs out of a care package. I've never been much of a beach guy, though I love a good lake day, but listening to Jimmy Buffet will dial me down a bit.

The Okee Dokee Brothers – Haul Away Joe

We have covered this before, but these guys are really great. Music and message both really hit the spot. I could have picked any number of their songs for this spot.

My daughter's godfather took us to their concert this year - a lot of fun and so great to have a shared interest with the little ones. Reminiscing with a 5-year old is the best.

Eve 6 – Inside Out

I have not purchased a lot of music in my day. For some reason, this song prompted me to buy their CD...back in '98, apparently. Thought it was earlier than that.

I just went through the album again on their website (they do still have one)...not sure when the last time I listened to them, but I must have played the whole thing an awful lot - I could jump into all the songs and sing along. Music is a funny thing.

We even have an Eve 6 tag already. Boy, you guys are thorough.

SOMETHING ROTTEN! – GOD I HATE SHAKESPEARE

Jumping forward to somthing a little more recent...wife and I managed a night out back in April and got to see Something Rotten at the Orpheum. We’ve since gone to see Chicago as well. Both of them a lot of fun. There may be more Broadway in my future.

The cast members in this clip were in the show we saw. So that’s cool.

GREEN DAY – BASKET CASE

Hey everybody! I may be the least qualified one here to play VJ, but I do listen to the music now and again.

As I've never done this before, maybe we'll dedicate this week to exposing ZG a little bit, at least in terms of the music that has been a part of my life, past and present.

Kicking off, if I had to pick one band to identify with as my musical taste, I'm pretty sure I'd go with Green Day. I remember being a young teen, maybe tween, at my cousin's house when they were playing the "Dookie" album. An odd memory perhaps, but I had been into country around that time (before it was cool, definitely). Anyway, I know I liked what I heard, and while I enjoy a wide variety of music, Green Day, and their ilk, always seem to sound just right to me.
