Beat The Streak – 57 Hitters Edition

I thought I'd keep this here instead of clogging the CoC or game log. Here's the leaderboard:

If you'd like to help me keep everything updated, which I can assure you will be very much appreciated, the link is here. Simply go to the "HitQuery" sheet at the bottom and change the "N" to a "Y" when someone on the list gets a hit. The spreadsheet will take care of the rest and the above scoreboard will auto-update.

Game 75 Recap: From the Livejournal of Cole DeVries

June 28, 2013

Mood: Tired 😐

Music: Imagine Dragons - Radioactive

I had a dream last night that I was pitching for the Twins at Target Field. It was a beautiful sunny day and there was a huge crowd cheering for the first pitch and I was up on the mound and the batter was standing in the box and the umpire was shouting “Play Ball” and the ball was in my glove and then the ball was in my hand my hand and then
I just couldn’t throw the ball. I knew I had to throw the ball, and I wanted to throw the ball, and I was staring at the ball in my hand thinking “I need to throw you” but I just couldn’t do it. I couldn’t throw a pitch. Everybody was waiting for me to start the game and the crowd was getting impatient, and I could hear them muttering “Why can’t he throw the ball, what’s wrong with him” and I was getting more and more frustrated. Then I saw Coach Gardenhire start to walk out of the dugout towards me and I knew I had to throw a pitch right then, throw it Now! Okay, just throw it Now! Come on! What’s wrong with you just throw it now! But it was too late, Coach Gardenhire was coming and I couldn’t do a thing. And then I woke up.

Game 73: Twins (34-38) vs. Marlins (25-50. oof, it sucks to be a Marlins fan these days.)

Correia (6-4, 3.87 ERA) vs. Fernandez (4-4, 3.05 ERA)

For the second time this year, the Twins get to play the Marlins in a two game set. Somehow, they lost one of those games last time (and looking it up its because Pelfrey was pitching during that particularly fun time of the year), so I should probably refrain from too much confidence. That said, I'm on a little Tuesday win-streak on days when I actually remember to do my game log, and I full expect to continue that here tonight.

The Marlins are the lowest scoring team in the league, and its not even close. I'm not convinced they'll score 500 runs this year.  Somehow, though, they actually aren't last in the league in run scoring differential because Houston still has a team in which a move to the AL has done no good. That's a good thing for Correia, who, not being a mind reader so I can only assume, will be looking to continue his surprisingly/un-surprisingly year of decent pitching while we spend the rest of the week talking about Kyle Gibson.

For this week's travels, I'll be in Charlotte, NC. Or, I wanted to be in Charlotte, but was forced by the person I am traveling with to stay in Shelby, NC, about an hour from Charlotte and likely containing less beer. It'll be interesting to see if the Bobcats to Hornets changover will be starting this week, or if the city has to wait until its official.

Game 72: Twins 5, Indians 3

In a spot-start, Pedro Hernandez gets his third win of the season and helps prevent an Indians sweep. The offense racked up 5 runs on 12 hits.

The Twins are now 34-38, 5-5 in their past 10 games. They are 7 games behind the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers and 1.5 games behind third place KC.

Not to steal Jeff A's thunder, but the bigger news from yesterday is that Hernandez was optioned back to Rochester and Kyle Gibson was recalled. He is scheduled to make his MLB debut against the Royals on Saturday...apparently, the future is now!

From the Twins website:

Gibson made 15 starts for the Rochester Red Wings this season, going 7-5 with a 3.01 ERA, 79 strikeouts and 28 walks in 92 2/3 innings.
