2020 Game 6: Cleveland at Twins

Not so surprisingly, the Twins are one of the three best teams in the league by record at the time of this writing. More surprisingly is that the other two are the Rockies and the Padres.

It feels very strange to write about the Twins right now as if I believe the season will just go on, but for now, I foolishly remain hopeful that we had our one misstep and from here on out, it's smooth sailing. Cleveland, who's apparently mulling a name change also, sends Shane Bieber against Jose Berrios in what should be a good matchup, assuming Berrios goes ahead and forgets what happened on Opening Day (for his part, Bieber threw six scoreless against the Royals, with 14 of his 18 outs being of the strike variety. Bieber is extremely prone to giving up the long ball, however, so let's sit back and enjoy the three true outcomes tonight.

Games! Twins vs. That Creeping Sense of Dread

This last has been rough, folks.

This series is huge, but it might not mean anything if the lineup can't get healthy. And after last night, the umpires saw fit to waste a start by one of the few starters who's been doing ANYTHING lately.

It's not ideal.

There's (maybe rightfully) a certain sense of dread hanging over this series. Cleveland's got some deadly pitchers on the hill, and we've got....openers. you know what would cure that? A double header sweep!

Get it done, Smeltzer/Thorpe/Dobnak/etc!

Game 91: twins @ cleveland

Well, that was fun! Let's do it again.

I think Gibson is a decent pitcher, but he is prone to the type of game he had last night, where he just doesn't have it. Rocco realizing that in the fourth inning and taking him out probably saved the ballgame. That's the type of good decision making that adds up over a season and becomes magnified in the postseason.

It also turned "I don't have a good feeling about this series" to "hey, this could work..."

Trying to keep the good vibes going today is Jake Odorizzi. He's taken a bit of a tumble lately, bit I'm thinking that his true self is somewhere between the truly great April and May that he had and the significantly less good June where he lost his hold on the All Star Game start and, eventually, a couple of layers of skin on one of his fingers.

We all know this series is big. A win or (dare I even a think it) a sweep puts Cleveland back in their places and (hopefully) gives them a seller's mentality here in the next few weeks.

Cleveland counters with Trevor Bauer. He's been up and down lately after his strong start. The Twins got to him last time. Hopefully, they do it again.
