Brenda Weiler – Trickle Down

If Hammerhead is my favorite music act to ever come from Fargo, I suppose Brenda Weiler is my second. I had the hugest of crushes on her in high school. I can't remember who told me to listen to her, but she was way outside of what I normally listened to. I just loved her voice, and for whatever reason was thinking about her tonight. I guess she runs a yoga studio downtown now? Anyway, here's a recent recording of her playing the eponymous song from her first record.

Miyazono Kaori – Beethoven Sonata No.9 Op.47 “Kreutzer”

I mentioned in Movie Day that the finale of the anime Your Lie in April started streaming on Thursday so I watched it. The ending was about what I expected, and the show stuck the landing. One of the best shows I've watched in year. Anyway, in honor of that, here's Kaori's first performance from the show, "Kreutzer."

Colleen Green – Pay Attention

So, my obsession with Colleen Green's new album I Want To Grow Up is quite strong. It's a really awesome power pop album full of songs that I relate to. I am freaking out since exactly four weeks from tonight she's going to be playing here at a skate park thing or something. We're not quite a quarter of the way through the year yet, but I'd be shocked if this falls out of my top 10. Anyway, this is "Pay Attention."

Shonen Knife – Twist Barbie

I spent a lot of my younger years hanging out at the video rental place near my house. One of the guys who worked there had a pretty vast collection of music and he turned me on to a lot of different bands that were really important in forming my tastes. Shonen Knife was one of those bands, so Let's Knife!

Speedy Ortiz – Raising the Skate

I really liked Speedy Ortiz's last album, Major Arcana quite a bit, but it meant a hell of a lot more to me after seeing them last October. This was the first song released off their forthcoming record Foil Deer and I'm pretty sure I'm going to flip over that record if this is any indication.

Marissa Nadler – Dead City Emily

It's my turn at the controls, and I figure we'll start things off with a cut from one of my favorite records from last year. And to be up front, International Women's Day lost an hour to DST, so expect a focus on female artists this week as I do my part to make up for that. It's still Women's History Month after all!

Kim Gordon/Nirvana – Aneurysm

I haven't followed Kim Gordon very closely, but I'm intrigued by her new book. And there's no question she knows how to rock.

In this 2014 performance, she plays with members of Nirvana at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
