2015 Game 3: Twins at Tigers

Sean tells me that this is the twelfth time - ever - that a team has started the season by getting shut out twice. If the Twins are going to be just one of twelve rather than one of one to hold the record, they'll be needing that run today. I fully expect for there to be a sarcastic cheer when the Twins score a run, so let's get that out of the way and maybe even consider getting out of Detroit with a win.

Today, Kyle Gibson faces Shane Greene. Who is Shane Greene? This is his sophomore campaign after being a meh starter for the Yankees last year in fourteen games. He was an old rookie at 27, and his upside looks to be pretty limited, as he strikes out some but walks too many. He does KEEP THE BALL DOWN, though, so expect no home runs in our quest for a run. If they prove me wrong, even better.

At least there's no Scherzer or Verlander here, right?

Let's take something positive from this series, Twins.

[Yawning and stretching]

Whaaa? A game already? Well, okay. Whatever...

The Twinkles started the first of this six game road trip off right, and hope to continue today. However, the Wahoos are sending the Klubot to the mound, but the Twins are countering with their Gibsmo. It's a battle for the future of mankind!!!!11 Or, it's just 2 middling AL central teams (yes, Cleveland, that's right, you can pack those hopes away for another season) playing a game for the literally hundreds of people that are going to show up at the park.

2014 Game 90: Twins at Mariners

Who wants to stay up and watch this one with me, assuming I actually do so myself? If you'd said before the season that the Twins would be 40-49 going into game ninety I probably would have been pretty happy about it, but considering how long we played .500 ball, I remain somewhat apathetic, particularly as one of my other teams - the Mariners - continue to play well enough to keep me engaged.

Two 7-7 rookies, Kyle Gibson and Roenis Elias, go today. Elias strikes out his share of guys - not quite one an inning, but fairly close - and doesn't walk many. He skipped AAA and opened the season with the Mariners and seems to be the exact same pitcher he was in AA.

I suppose I'll probably catch this while wishing we could just fast-forward to Dozier in the Derby. But what the hell: go Twins!
