Game 76: Clevelanders @ twins

Does it feel like the Twins went 4-2 this past week? I guess I kind of recall that they had a free good games, but wouldn't have guessed a .667 record, necessarily. The Twins have largely stabilized, but they obviously need to do a lot more than that to dig out of the hole they flung themselves into.

Today, the hometown nine match up against this same uninspiring, but somehow competitive Cleveland team. The season series is tied so far, so hopefully, King Kenta's comeback from the IL , which has been pretty good so far, keeps on rolling.

2021 Game Log 22 — MN Twins at Cleveland Baseball Club

Oof. Another frustrating loss and now they are starting to pile up and the SSS factor is slipping away. The Twins have been wielding the assiest of ass bats lately with no one without the name Cruz or Buxton on the back of their jerseys having any success at the plate whatsoever. Combine that with a bullpen that coughs up leads faster than my dog coughs up dead squirrel and you've got a team with twice as many loses as wins.

Kenta Maeda on the mound for the Twins and lets' hope a nice recovery from last weeks lousy outing. Civale for Cleveland and he's had a decent year, not a big strike out guy so hopefully the Twins can put some balls in play today. 5:10p start time

2019 Game 2: Clevelanders @ Twins

Baseball is back, everyone!

I'll admit, I've got my hopes set high this year, and Cy Berrios did nothing to dampen those hopes with his record breaking start on Thursday.  I think that this is a team that can hang with what looks to be a punchless Cleveland lineup (seriously, pinch hitting for your number three hitter?) and make some noise.

The home team looks to keep it going by sending Odorizzi to the mind for game two. I'm still not sure what to think of the Odor. Will he be pleasing? Will he be pungent? We'll know soon enough.

Game 32 Twins at Cleveland

This is a big series. Cleveland and Minnesota are tied for first place,w ith the Twins having two games in hand, a sweep could make some room at the top. The Twins have the perfect pitcher to continue a long win streak with Ervin Santana. Josh Tomlin starts for the C's. He is coming off his best start of the season (7ip 1r)

Fun fact! With his next run scored, Joe Mauer will reach 900 for his career. He is 5th on the all time Twins list, and only 4 behind Kent Hrbek. If Mauer is helathy and plays all of next year he might be able to catch Kirby (1071) and Harmon (1076 in his Twins years)

Game 30 Recap: Twins alot Cleveland not enough.

Mike Pelfrey was solid, Torii Hunter had his best day of the year at the plate, and the Twins continue to win more than they lose in a 9-3 romp over Cleveland.

I suppose this is a good night to have a discussion about Hunter. Most people, including me, did not like the signing. He is old, not a great defensive player, and threw players under the bus. He started off the season terribly, but has come on strong lately (batting avg up to .280 hitting more doubles and HRs). I am wondering if anyone has changed their opinion on Hunter? Or even softened their stance  to a grudging acceptance? I kind of fall into that camp. But then ii will take to Twitter and I just want him to go away.

Anyway, Hunter went 4-4 with 3 extra base hits (2 doubles and a HR) to lead the Twins offense.  He would have had 3 doubles but was thrown out by a good distance trying to stretch a single into a double.

Pelfrey had a wobbly start and Cleveland struck for 2 runs in the 3rd inning. but settled down and ended up going 7  innings. I'll take that from Pelf every start. Although the zero strikeouts are a bit worrying.

NOTES

-The Twins scored in 6 of the 9 innings.

- JR Graham finally got the Twins off the no strikeout schneid. The 1 team strikeout matches a season low, done two other times .

- The Twins had 6 doubles that is a season high.

- Every Twins batter had either a run scored, or an RBI

- Hunter now has 473 career doubles, tied for 74th all time with Carlos Delgado, Jimmy Rollins, Dwight Evans, and Ted Simmons.

- The Twins are 8-2 in the last 10 games. While Cleveland drops to a .367 win percentage, last place in the AL.

Game 31: Twins vs. The Clevelands

Starters: Samuel Deduno (and his Magical Zoomball) (0-1, 2.89 ERA) vs. Josh "Probably a Jeremy" Tomlin (Stats-less)

Dedsy returns to the starting rotation from his spot letting inherited runners in to score in place of Big Pelf, so regardless what happens tonight it'll almost surely be better than it could have been.

I wasn't able to follow last night's game at all. When I got home and checked the score, seeing Escobar as the guy who hit the home run was about as far from what I had expected as possible. At this point, I really don't see why Florimon is on the big club when the bench could really use someone who could actually provide some pop in those late inning situations. But, I suppose I don't control those things and the Twins are at .500, so there is that.

Anywho, tonights opponent is making his first start of the season, so this would seem like a really good game for Twin's hitters to get their walking mojo working. Tomlin's stats make him look a lot like a lot of the starters the Twins have trotted out over the past few years, striking out few and giving up runs. I have a good feeling their new organizational edict at the plate will prevent this from being a typical Jeremy game.
