PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE

Mayaguez 5, Caguas 2 in Mayaguez.  Daniel Ortiz was 1-for-4 with a run for Mayaguez.  Eddie Rosario was 1-for-3 with a run for Mayaguez.  Nelvin Fuentes pitched a perfect inning for Mayaguez.

PLAYOFF UPDATES

Dominican League—Escogido leads Aguilas three games to one in the best-of-nine championship series.

Mexican League—Our congratulations to the Yaquis de Obregon as they have won the Mexican League championship, sweeping Guasave four games to none in the best-of-seven series.

Puerto Rican League—Our congratulations to the Indios de Mayaguez as they have won the Puerto Rican League championship, defeating Caguas five games to three in the best-of-nine series.

Venezuelan League—Aragua and La Guaira are tied one game apiece in their best-of-seven series.

Australian League—The playoffs begin today.  Perth plays Melbourne and Adelaide plays Sydney in the first round.  Each first round series is best-of-five.

Aguilas 1, Escogido 0 in Aguilas.  Pedro Florimon was 1-for-3 for Escogido.  Francisco Liriano started for Escogido and pitched four innings, striking out five while giving up an unearned run on two hits and two walks to take the loss.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE

Caguas 6, Mayaguez 5 in Caguas (11 innings).  Aaron Bates struck out as a pinch-hitter for Caguas.  Daniel Ortiz was 1-for-3 with two walks for Mayaguez.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

La Guaira 4, Aragua 2 in Aragua.  Pedro Guerra allowed a run on three hits and a walk in one inning.

Mayaguez 8, Caguas 5 in Mayaguez.  Daniel Ortiz was 0-for-4 and scored once for Mayaguez.

Magallanes 8, Aragua 4 in Magallanes.  Pedro Guerra struck out seven in three perfect innings for Magallanes.

Sunday

Magallanes 6, Anzoategui 5 in Anzoategui (11 innings).  Lester Oliveros struck out two in three shutout innings, giving up one hit, for Anzoategui.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

Saturday

Adelaide 7, Brisbane 1 in Adelaide (Game 1).  Rory Rhodes was 0-for-3 for Brisbane.

Brisbane 4, Adelaide 3 in Adelaide (Game 2).  Rory Rhodes was 0-for-4 for Brisbane.

Perth 3, Sydney 0 in Perth.  Jacob Younis was 0-for-3 with a walk for Sydney.  Luke Hughes was 1-for-4 with an RBI for Perth.

Sunday

Melbourne 10, Canberra 7 in Melbourne.  Tim Atherton surrendered eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits and three walks in 4.1 innings.

Perth 7, Sydney 2 in Perth.  Jacob Younis was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for Sydney.  Luke Hughes was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one for Perth.

Venezuelan League—Aragua won the round-robin, but there was a three-way tie for second among Anzoategui, La Guaira, and Magallanes.  Magallanes defeated Anzoategui in the first game of the playoff, with La Guaira getting the bye.  La Guaira then defeated Magallanes in the second game.  La Guaira will play Aragua in the championship series.

Australian League—The playoffs start Thursday.  The way the brackets work, 1 plays 2 and 3 plays 4 in the first round.  In the second round, the winner of 3-4 plays the loser of 1-2.  In the championship round, the winner of 1-2 plays the second round winner.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Aragua 6, Anzoategui 4 in Aragua.  Lester Oliveros struck out the side in the ninth for Anzoategui.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

Perth 4, Sydney 3 in Perth (15 innings).  Luke Hughes was 1-for-5 with a walk and a double, scoring once for Perth.  Jacob Younis was 0-for-5 for Sydney.  Todd Van Steensel struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up one hit for Sydney.

Dominican League—Aguilas plays Escogido in a best-of nine series for the championship starting tonight.

Mexican League—Guasave plays Obregon in a best-of-seven series for the championship starting tonight.

Puerto Rican League—Mayaguez leads Caguas three games to two in their best-of-nine series.

Venezuelan League—Aragua has clinched the sixteen game round robin, leading Anzoategui by a game and a half with one game to play.

Australian League—The regular season ends tomorrow, with the playoffs beginning January 26.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Magallanes 5, Aragua 4 in Aragua.  Pedro Guerra retired all five men he faced, striking out three, for Magallanes.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

Adelaide 5, Brisbane 3 in Adelaide.  Rory Rhodes was 1-for-4 with a home run for Brisbane.

Sydney 4, Perth 2 in Perth.  Jacob Younis was 1-for-4 for Sydney.  Luke Hughes was 2-for-5 with a double for Perth.

In a game not involving Twins players, Aguilas defeated Licey 5-4 in the Dominican League, and so will play Escogido for the championship.

Aguilas 7, Cibao 1 in Cibao.  Alexi Casilla started the game and singled in his only plate appearance.  Wilkin Ramirez was 0-for-4 for Cibao.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE

Caguas 4, Mayaguez 1 in Mayaguez.  Daniel Ortiz was 1-for-4 for Mayaguez.  Nelvin Fuentes gave up a run on a hit in two innings for Mayaguez.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

Canberra 16, Melbourne 7 in Melbourne.  Sam Gibbons surrendered six runs (five earned) on six hits in three innings for Melbourne.  Markus Solbach gave up a run on two hits and three walks in two innings while striking out two for Melbourne.

Perth 4, Sydney 3 in Perth.  Luke Hughes was 0-for-2 with two walks and scored once for Perth.  Jacob Younis was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Sydney.

Licey 6, Escogido 5 in Escogido.  Pedro Florimon was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Escogido.  Francisco Liriano allowed two runs on two hits and a walk, striking out one for Escogido.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE

Mayaguez 2, Caguas 0 in Caguas.  Daniel Ortiz was 0-for-3 for Mayaguez.  Aaron Bates was 0-for-3 for Caguas.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Magallanes 6, Anzoategui 4 in Magallanes.  Pedro Guerra gave up no hits but walked one and was charged with a run in 1.1 innings.  He also struck out one.  Lester Oliveros pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout for Anzoategui.

Not much globe to span today.  No games in the Puerto Rican or Australian Leagues, and none of the games in the Mexican or Venezuelan Leagues involved Twins players.

Escogido 10, Cibao 6 in Escogido.  Pedro Florimon was 0-for-2 with two walks for Escogido.  Francisco Liriano started for Escogido and pitched two-thirds of an inning, surrendering three runs on four hits and two walks.

Aguilas 3, Escogido 2 in Aguilas.  Pedro Florimon was 0-for-3 for Escogido.

Licey 3, Cibao 2 in Licey (10 innings).  Alexi Casilla was 2-for-6 with a run and an RBI for Cibao.

Mayaguez 10, Caguas 1 in Mayaguez.  Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Mayaguez.  Eddie Rosario pitch hit and struck out for Mayaguez.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Magallanes 11, Zulia 10 in Magallanes.  The score was 6-1 after eight; Zulia scored nine in the top of the ninth and Magallanes scored five in the bottom of the ninth.  Pedro Guerra struck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings for Magallanes, giving up a hit and a walk.

Aragua 5, Anzoategui 2 in Anzoategui.  Lester Oliveros allowed an unearned run on a hit and a walk while striking out one in one inning.

Sunday

Aragua 5, Anzoategui 3 in Anzoategui.  Lester Oliveros worked a perfect inning for Anzoategui.

Perth 8, Canberra 7 in Canberra (Game 1—11 innings).  Luke Hughes was 1-for-1 with a walk as a reserve for Perth.

Brisbane 9, Melbourne 3 in Brisbane.  Sam Gibbons struck out one in a scoreless inning for Melbourne, giving up a hit and a walk.

Sydney 6, Adelaide 4 in Sydney.  Jacob Younis was 3-for-4 and scored once for Sydney.  Todd Van Steensel struck out three in two perfect innings for Sydney.

Canberra 3, Perth 2 in Canberra.  Tim Atherton struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up just two hits for Canberra.
