First heard this song while working as a janitor in college - I wasn't in control of the radio that day. For some reason or another, country music clicked for me when I'd never before given it so much as a sideways glance. It's not my favorite genre, but George introduced me to some pretty cool guys...and gals.

This song doesn't hit my Top 20 for George, but I think that speaks more to his career than anything. The guy has been pumping out hits for thirty years and I think a good part of it is that he doesn't write his own music. His songs aren't personal and can usually appeal to a broad audience, and he'll sing anything if it sounds good. And his voice hasn't really changed either. I can think of only one song that was given to him first and someone else turned around and made it a hit, and that was Me Oh My Sweet Baby by Diamond Rio.
For me, George Strait is just the guy who caused insane traffic when he played the Xcel Energy Center and made two of our actors late for a performance. How dare he!
Agreed on all points except I'd say this is Top 20 for me...high teens probably. I'll have to check out that Diamond Rio version.
George Strait is one of my three favorite country singers. He doesn't try to do too much with his songs and has almost zero "celebrity" vibe to him. Oh, and he's actually a country singer, unlike 97.6% of the artists played on country music stations.
agree to all this as well
97.6% of the artists played on country music stations
Taylor Swift has no idea what you're talking about.
Yeah, but does he look good in tight jeans and a white t-shirt?
I always wonder, when I hear country singers do songs about tractors or small towns or similar things, how many of them have ever lived outside of a major metropolitan area.
This was supposed to go under bhiggum's post, not be separate.
Going by the math in my post, I would estimate 2.4%, but that is probably on the high side.
