Well, alright! 50,000 watts of CH Week coming at you, from Monday to Sunday, right here on WGOM!
The power of Hank's voice still resonates nearly sixty years later. From his second appearance on The Kate Smith Evening Hour, 23 April 1952.

That June Carter sure had a set of pipes on her, didn't she? You can pick her voice out clear as anything. From Hank's first appearance on The Kate Smith Evening Hour, 26 March 1952.
I should mention that when I agreed to guest host for a week, I thought I might do a week on great American voices. Today's videos would have led that week off (I'm still savoring the power of June Carter's voice singing harmony in that second clip), but ultimately things took a different direction. There won't be any particular overarching theme for the week - just videos I enjoy coming back to from time to time for various reasons.
I do think, though, that it would be fun to do a week of videos which highlight different themes in Country music - Mom, drinking, salvation (or lack thereof), love, etc. Here in the People's Republic we have a wonderful Wednesday morning show on WORT hosted by Bill Malone, and a couple weeks back Bill did a really fascinating show in which he played a couple songs each from those different themes. It was a heck of a lot of fun to listen to if you're at all interested in older Country music.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this week, and thanks for having me back.

Everyone knows the ingredients to the perfect country and western song are mama, trains, trucks, prison, and getting drunk.
Don't forget unrequited love and salvation/damnation.

Whoa whoa whoa, are you sure we have a license for all those watts?
Very nice. An extremely rare 10 stars from me. Waylon died 10 years ago today. I hope we see something from The original Outlaw this week.
Whoops, I hadn't accounted for that anniversary; I might try to sneak him in with a bonus video if I can figure out how to finesse it.
I'm hearing some 16 Horsepower in my mind right now...
I'm not a country fan; I'll withhold my vote out of respect for the artist.
HWJr. should be forced to sit down and listen to his pappy for a few days, Clockwork Orange style, to reform him.
or his own son, for that matter.
Wha? Hank talk and no mention of the Hoggsbreath on Rice Street? Eatin', Drinkin', Dancin'.
