Love this song. Nice B&W clip, to boot.
I first got into "olde tyme" country music with storytellers like Tom T. Hall, Johnny Horton, Lefty Frizzell and, of course, Marty Robbins. Great play Rhu.
yar, loved Tom T. Hall. Also Roger Miller.
Tom T Hall is way too maudlin for me. Sorry. Now, Johnny Horton on the other hand...

That feller could croon.
YES! Dad also had his greatest, and I could easily have gone with North to Alaska, Battle of New Orleans, Jim Bridger...I'm not a "country" fan, but I don't see Johnny Horton, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, et al. as "country" per se, I see them as "good" 😉
I considered this track as well; it's not a classic like the others, but another good storytellin' track. You can tell it's Nesmith-penned.

Yay! Papa Nes sighting!
Was featured on the album The Drifter. Now add some vinyl scratches and you've taken me back 40 yrs.
