Back in the mid-early '80's I got into the whole cow-punk sound. Bands like Rank and File, the Beat Farmers, Green on Red, Jason and the Scorchers. The Long Ryders are still my favorite.

I have never heard the phrase 'cow punk' used, but I like the sound.
From the repository. Still one of my favorite sub-genres of music, but then I'm a 70's - 80's kind of guy.
First time I've heard that term as well. I rather like both the term and the sound.
I'd heard it used to describe the early Meat Puppets (starting with II)
