No walks for Hughes since his second start, and only one homer? Wow. Maybe they bring that up every time he pitches, but I haven't seen enough of the Twins lately.
There's his first walk since April 20th (the second longest streak the Twins have ever had). Radke has three of the five longest streaks.
Nothing wrong with it, but it just seems kind of odd to me that they measure that streak in batters rather than innings.
Actually, though they were talking about batters at first, the top five list I referred to broke them down by innings.
Awesome double play started by Dozier to end the second. Nobody's watching, but if you're DVRing, see that one.
Dang. That was nice.
I just watched it. That's a top ten double play that I've seem in my lifetime.
Twins challenged, and they still blew the call. Boo.
Dazzle on the radio call for that play. I still have no idea what happened
It wasn't complicated (though you had know way of knowing that). Dozier beat the play, as the ball hit the glove a split-second after he arrived. The glove was clearly open around the arriving ball when he hit the base.
hj beat me to updating the featured image. This is the one I was going to use:
The Twins have scored first in all three games.
Dick is positively incredulous that Kubel wouldn't be encouraged to bunt to get out of his slump.
I would positively incredulous if Dick didn't think that.
He ended up quantifying it by saying "Well, maybe not in this situation." He was suggesting bunting for a hit, so why would any situation be bad, if Kubel actually had the speed to pull it off? Just dippy all around.
The thing is, I don't disagree that bunting a couple of times to relax the shift a bit might be a good idea, but I do disagree with the idea that a single bunt hit is going to end Kubel's slump. His issues go deeper than that.
Plus, Smalley pointed out to him that a left-handed homer threat isn't going to be asked to bunt in a stadium with a 314-foot right field fence.
As terrible as it sounds, I think retirement is the only actual way to end his slump.
I wonder how much the bunting, successfully, would help. Jeff Sullivan looked at bunt attempts and they had no effect. Maybe enough hits would change it, but I don't know if Kubes is quick enough to make them change much.
As dramatic a shift as they put on Kubel, he should reach on a bunt left fair at least half the time, so why wouldn't you do that in any situation except maybe with two outs, especially when he's slumping. It won't help him, but it sure would help the team a lot more than striking out four times a game. Teams have advanced as far as understanding the newer statistics, but they still seem to get that the fundamental most important thing in baseball is to not make an out (or conversely to make outs on defense).
So, getting real outfielders in the outfield didn't help that play along...
Just needs more practice!
Another walk. Hughes must really hate Yankee Stadium.
Or McCann loves it.
McCann looks absolutely terrible without a beard.
I see Hughes' non-McCann BB-less streak is still going strong.
SEND HIM!!!
sliding into first base cost Gardner a hit. shock.
Gardener's safe easily if he doesn't slide. Where do players get the idea that it's faster to do it that way?
By watching all those world-class sprinters headfirst sliding across the finish line, of course. Oh, wait...

Next time you hear about how Yankees fans are the greatest fans in baseball, remember how they booed someone who's blown only his second save all year. Good grief.
I didn't realize that was the reputation.
I always got the impression they were generally spoiled and overly demanding.
Spoiled from all the winning, that is.
I don't know that it's the reputation generally, but it's what I hear every time the Yankees are on a national broadcast. What you said is, in my opinion, much closer to the truth.
they get the "great fans" rep because of that cheer they do at the beginning of the game
Greatest as in most. Most annoying, most demanding, most obnoxious...

Kubel grand slam
Granted, he was replaced between innings, but that was obviously meant to be a four out save
They mentioned that this was the first time in 46 years that the Twins have won back-to-back series in New York. So, nearly their entire lifetime.
O.K. Twins won both three-game series in New York in 1992. Won series in consecutive seasons in 2000-01.So 1968 is out— LaVelle E. Neal III (@LaVelleNeal) June 1, 2014

Four blown saves over the years against the Twins. The Twins walked off once, once knocked him out of the game, once took a one run lead only to give up a grand slam and lose, and once tied the game and lost in extras.
So he's no Troy Percival, eh?

MOAR RUNZ!!!!
It's raining runs!
Two out rally!
I was going to take a nap, but now I'm bothered by what this game says about Jeter's leadership.
I know I won't sleep very soundly tonight.
This is the most fun Twins game since 2010, right?
Eh, that Deduno game last year was pretty awesome. This one does get extra points for being against NY, though.
and thats a series win!
Felicidad, my friends.

Did they give an explanation for the odd start time tomorrow?
Seems to be a an honor for their flagship radio station
Thanks!
