This song has been around for 80 or so years, performed by everyone from Lawrence Welk, Bing Crosby and Gene Autry to Johnny Cash, Brian Wilson and Low. This version took my breath away. Producer Dave Cobb (known for his work with WGOM favorites Sturgill Simpson & Jason Isbell as well as Shooter Jennings and Stapleton) put together a compilation album this year called Southern Family which is where this tune can be found.
I heard an even cleaner performance of this on Fallon last month, but I could not find it online.
Our newest daughter (Heidegger) has been given the nickname "Sunny". We sing this song to her all the time.
Were it not for the screaming fans (which I loathe), this would get a 10 from me. Too bad you couldn't find the cleaner version. I'm gonna have to go find this one somewhere to add to my collection.
"Wait, what?"
I think that'd be "Sonny."
Tell me how you'd pronounce that differently then.
So ... after an additional (lunch) hour of searching, best I can figure is that NBC has pulled the video. It aired on November 10, 2016 on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, but neither NBC generally, nor The Tonight Show sites specifically have the video up (it was a doozy of an episode. Guests were Amy Adams /yes please/ and Joe Buck /uhm ... yeah/).
You can see the initial screen capture of the video (see below) in various sources, but get the dreaded, "Sorry, but this video is no longer available."
Here's the recorded version (their live performance was this good on The Tonight Show).
This is on our Nursing Home set list, although admittedly we don't sing it that often -- it's not a cheery tune.
I can see that. I like to think of it like the Rolling Stone reviewer describes it:
I've been listening to Traveller a lot lately. I think I could pull off "Nobody to Blame" at karaoke.
This has been in my head (in a good way) since this was posted. Good pull, CoC
Thanks!
