Chastity Belt was the last band I saw live before everything turned sideways. The show was a huge bummer (bad crowd that never shut up, could barely hear the band since they played the newer, quieter stuff), but I'm glad I got to see them.
One of my first First Ave shows was Low/Soul Coughing (I know Low was an opener and pretty sure SC was the headliner; I saw them both there around the same time at least). If you know Low's music, it may not seem like the right venue, but we were all entranced. I'd never heard of them and immediately bought their new LP (Long Division) from the merch table.
I went and saw Low at Fargo's "First Avenue" a very, very long time ago. I had a huge crush at the woman who worked at the record store, and she told me that it would be a good show. At this First Avenue, it was basically just a giant, dark ballroom with a bunch of folding tables. I sat there and just vibed. The only song I remember them playing for sure was "Lamb," and damn that's a hell of a song.
