One thought on “Maxime Bibeau – Bass Trip”
First of all, the double bass is such a cool solo instrument (see all the stuff Xavier Foley is doing as well). I really like the range and how it can do the impossibly low growl, but also sing like a cello. For this specific piece, it starts with the title . This piece is about the instrument and all the things it can do. Bibeau's notes on this performance sum it up, "It’s a journey that builds and builds, and is filled with raw expression mixed with beauty and warmth (while also being extremely difficult!)."
And so then you make it through 9 or 10 minutes of all the things that Bibeau can pull out of the double bass and you get this wonderful, warm surprise at the end. I love this a whole lot.
