How about a little baseball card NCIS? Here's a card image (compliments of http://www.twinscards.com) of 1995 Upper Deck Collector's Choice #490 Chuck Knoblauch. Once more we get a great shot of Knobby's acrobatics around 2nd base; assuming this is from 1994, and assuming it's the front end of a double play (or an attempted double play), can we determine the game/play when this occurred? Seemed topical what with the Angels involved in the play.
Is that Tolbot in the background?
That's Chad Curtis sliding into second. He wore #9 for two years: 1993 and 1994.
I think we can confirm this is 1994 (or a leftover photo from 1993) because prior to 1993 Chad Curtis wore #30 and #17 for the Angels, and prior to 1993 the Angels had a different uniform design.
How about June 8, 1994? In the bottom of the seventh, Curtis walks and then is forced out at second for the third out.
I like that, although it doesn't look like Knobby has the ball any longer.
Reusse has a good column today. I'd agree that I feel about as good as the execution of the starters as I did last season. Though Pavano's disapparated Ks scare me going forward, as does whatever's happening to Liriano. I feel that Baker is awesome and Dunce and NicKKKKKKKK BlacKKKKKKburn are outperforming my expectations this year (as they have in the past, and I still keep expecting them to regress).
cc to punman: just in case you weren't sure, that was me following you around last night. sorry, no headset, but i suck at that game anyway.
and on that note, the ps network is down again. sweet.
Whoo boy, Austin kicked my ass last night. I'm not as young as I used to be. My presentation is at 3:25, so I've got plenty of time to get myself sorted out.
I'm pretty sure that the 100+ degree weather didn't help you either.
Holy crap is it hot here. Getting off the plane was just a blast of hot air. I had to take off my jacket and roll up my sleeves. Today is worse because I have to wear a tie.
And all day yesterday I had to lug around my suitcase. I ended up walking almost 2 miles with it.
I landscaped, moved furniture, and cleaned out the garage yesterday. When the temp in SA hit 109 I stopped working.
The fire sale has begun. Dr. Chop and I have listed several of our choice possessions on ebay and craigslist. Let the bargaining begin. Ps, I'm pretty sure that the person who wants to buy our brand new queen mattress set from barbados is a scammer.
Back from a relaxing 1+ days in Tahoe (north shore, in the Incline Village area). We managed not to get snowed in -- only about 3 inches or so last night.
Happy holiday, Citizens.
Anyone know what it would take to coax Gregg Zaun out of retirement? He said his post-surgery shoulder hurt in spring training, so he retired. I wonder how it feels now. Last season he hit .265/.350/.392 in 115 or so games.
Chris Coste didn't play last season, but MLB.com still lists him as active. He hit .272/.329/.416 over his MLB years.
Both those guys, even if they're 25% off of those lines should be 50% better batters than Butters.
And these are just two guys that I can remember off the top of my head. I'd guess there are ten or more in similar situations. Rob Bowen's career line is .206/.300/.339, but he's been retired for two years and counting. (Although he's a dacade younger than Zaun or Coste.)
Alternately, time to put Nate Dammann on the roster. I doubt he'd hit much worse than Butters.
Coste had Tommy John and is trying to get back, but is not ready yet.
I did not know that. Nor does wikipedia or his own website.
Coste not ready to hang it up: Former Phillies C Chris Coste has agreed to take a TV job covering the Phillies, but he's not ready to retire yet. He's recovering from Tommy John surgery but still hopes to sign on with a team midseason. "I've definitely hit a major delay, but it's a common situation," Coste told the Dickinson Press, a newspaper from his home state of North Dakota.

I don't know if you've heard, but the Missouri River is flooding. The Missouri goes through the middle of South Dakota, then turns east and comes to Sioux City. The parsonage where I live is not threatened, but the homes of several friends are. Please keep these people in your prayers.

Yes, but it still is true.
neat pic of Thome holding Killebrew's jersey, and a nice nod to Seth on the Killebrew memorial service/tribute at the Bullseye.
