I had a post where I went over the team's possible All-Star representatives. That proved to be somewhat ridiculous. I mean, I suppose Span has a case - 3rd in the AL in bWAR, after all, but almost all of it is tied up in his defensive ability, and it seems kind of unlikely that that will sway anyone. Blackburn has been doing pretty well, he could be our own slightly more deserving Mark Redman.
Cuddy or Kubel will probably get it, though. Kubel's probably a bit more deserving, but Cuddy's got the rep and the 8HR. Who knows?
Today's pitcher probably doesn't really factor in the conversation, but he's been a kind of bright spot in an otherwise dour season.
My little netbook is having a hell of a time keeping up with any research I'm trying to do right now, and since my main computer's motherboard is fried, I'm out of time.
Colby Lewis vs. Scott Baker - I don't like this matchup for Baker, but I'd still rather see him on the mound than anyone else.
Huh, I didn't realize we weren't the worst team in MLB anymore.
Also, nice first inning for Light Rail.
I wish I could have seen it, but in Fox's infinite wisdom, Cubs-Phillies is more interesting to me.
Aren't they in a rain delay?
Looks to be the case. So in Fox's even better judgment, I could watch SF-CIN. Thanks jackasses.
so far, i'm liking this game better than yesterday.
I don't know how this can be working, but somehow it is.
It sounds like mlb is making sure I miss out on a fun
gamefirst inning.if cheaptoy is screwed, then so am i. i haven't even bothered to check.
wow -- runs have been scored!
I like runs!
Holy crap!
Warms my heart when the leadoff hitter gets to hit twice in the first inning.
Afternoon, gents. What I miss?
No TV here. Looks like I missed a fantastic first inning!
cah-silla?
i forgot, who's the new radio guy again?
Bob Kurtz (the main Wild PBP guy)
I thought Mistah Kurtz was dead
You're thinking of Colonel Kurtz.
Treated with more "Alexi Cass Seeuh" from Kurtz again today
I really, really like Matt Vasgersian.
He's my favorite video game PBP guy.
Okay, second-favorite, I might like Martin Tyler a little more.
Increasing his trade value.
It's times like this that I wish we could hire Scott Boras to put together a "book" for Delmon.
I still don't get why you throw Delmon an off-speed pitch
A (barely) AAA lineup knocks out their starter with one out in the second? Ridiculous!
Payback's a bitch.
I was at Target Field to see the Twins murder Dave Bush last season. It was awesome.
Surprised pulled him there.
I thought he might get yanked in the first.
I would be very surprised if Scott Baker didn't throw a complete game no-hitter today.
As long as Revere can catch his breath between batters, Baker's got a chance at that.
W. O. W.
Holy crap, Revere.
What a catch. That was damned impressive.
waiting for gameday to cue that up. or does FOX have rights on that?
Pretty sure won't get any highlights until the end of the game.
lllaaaame.
Hey, praise for Baker!
Actually realistic praise, as well (calling Baker a "ground ball pitcher" notwithstanding). There are few broadcasters who would recognize "solid middle-of-the-rotation starter" for the compliment that it is.
geez, Kurtz giving away my trivia answer secrets
what what what? was kurtz schooling blackjack and the dazz on b-r.com?
He's mentioned it a couple of times that I've heard.
All right, WTF is going on? I tune in to yet another blowout, but, but...but.. WE are doing the crushing? Idonnunerstand.
mmm, Supercold Activation.
Where is that advert where they mock this idiocy?
Gatorade commercial featuring Mauer- for stamina and recovery, eh? Maybe would've held off on that ad campaign until he's off the DL.
doesn't he drink the pussy formula?
Not the response I thought I'd get for that, but I laughed.
Way to put him away, Scotty.
Black Jack laughs in the face of superstition, mentioning the P____ G____ and the N_ H_____.
I think he was purposely trying to ruin it.
aaand Dazz not happy with the bunt attempts. Obviously, Gordo is not in the booth.
Wow, Gracie just had Ted Williams and Babe Ruth playing in the same game.
That was quite a game that Walter Johnson pitched that day, though.
Huh. I thought it was Silver King.
No, he was the winning pitcher that game.
El zapato esta en el otro pie hoy. Muy bien.
Jack Morris: major league baseball reference dot com.
Heh.
There goes my prediction.
Why, yes, of course we disconnected regular TV in time for me to miss this beatdown.
I thought you didn't get Fox?
By "didn't get" he meant "didn't understand"
Well, there was always a 15-20% chance it would come in.
Fun hearing Jim Perry talk, but man is it a GOML-fest
The Nation Has Problems is finished and ready to go on Monday at 5:00 PM! Mark your calendars.
Baker with only 65 pitches through five innings? He's Mr. Efficiency today.
Is Bert doing the FOX telecast? He needs to be watching this.
No Bert today. But speaking of great pitching, I flipped on FSN earlier today and watched the last 5 innings of this game.
I was at that game! We had seats in the upper deck, almost directly behind the plate. Turned out to be the perfect seats for all of those Rangers' whiffs.
I was at that game, too! I have my scorecard framed.
Sadly, my Gagne bobblehead took a spill last year and was decapitated.
I had a Koskie mini-bobblehead. It kept getting knocked over and broken and I had to keep gluing it back together. Eventually, it broke and I threw it away. Seemed a fitting end to Koskie's bobblehead's career.
I remember watching it on TV. I wanted to go back and read the game log from that one today, but alas, I could not.
We used to get those seats all the time. They were cheap, usually pretty available, and had a great view of the playing field and especially the hitter/pitcher match-up.
The No-Hitter might be out of the question, but I'm feeling good about the shutout.
And now 75 through six innings. With 51 strikes. Light Rail is rolling today.
82-56 through seven.
Well this looks pretty fun.
I am pretty sure Jack just inferred that the entire Rangers team got too drunk celebrating their win last night and that is why they are awful today. Did anyone else get that out of what he said?
he didn't imply they were drunk, only that...well, yeah, that's what he was implying
That sounds like a Morrisism.
I got it half-right, anyway.
I don't like this matchup forBaker, but I'd still rather see him on the mound than anyone else.!FTFY
_elmon with a 3 for 4 day.
Trade him tonight!
Never stops playing hard!
Strong finisher!
Fully equipped with Dyna Glide transmission!
Leaves nothing behind but the sweet smell of pine!
FTW
We're still scoring? Nice.
Oh, damn, there goes the shutout.
Boo.
Do we put Baker back out the for the 9th with 99 pitches? Or do we trust our bullpen with a 7-run lead for 1 inning?
It's sad that I had to consider that second question a serious inquiry.
I'd send Baker back out, but that's me, I'm old school.
21st Amendment IPA is the best beer I've had from a can in a long while.
Dude, you need some Surly.
In fairness, I know not of this beer you mention.
Heh. We drink Surly from the tap in these parts.
*cries softly to self*
Dang. That's lovely.
'ats just a big can.
But yeah, I am jealous with those other guys.
whose is that? I've been to the 21st Amendment in SF, but did not know they bottled.
That's the one, but they are all about the cans.
so, I can't argue with the can thing, but I'm pretty sure there are better IPAs around here. I'd highlight Racer 5, Big Daddy, and Hop Ottin as three examples.
Oh, I have no doubt. It's most definitely the can thing. We have Surly and Brew Farm around here, but that's about it for the cans.
Love some Hop Ottin. I haven't had the others...but I will soon, it would seem.
The Hop Ottin is fantastic. Huge hop flavor, but well balanced. Ditto Racer 5 (and their rye IPA, Hop Rod Rye). The Big Daddy is more hopscene.
Is he looking at the bullpen yet?
I can't prove that Baker has the mojo, but I've got a strong hunch he might.
If there was ever a time to give Hamilton one in the ribs...this is it!
Shoulda plunked him.
Ace!
Sweet way to wrap that one up, with a twin killing.
Good game, Light Rail.
He was more Big Train than Light Rail today.
we don't get to bat in the 9th inning again!!!
Puppies!
Nice bounceback game. Let's see if we can trade Delmon to Texas after the series.
For Hamilton.
Alright, I have to test the spoiler thing to make sure I know what I'm doing.
Ladies and gentlemen, Scott Baker.
5th starter, Scott Baker.
4th best starter in the division by xFIP before this game, Scott Baker.
Release the hound!
Well, that was fun. Enjoy the weekend.
Wow, I just watched video of Baker. He made Josh Hamilton look really bad today. So at this point, it seems Baker should be the Twins All-Star rep, right?
Well, Liriano does have the no-hitter... it is a popularity contest, right?
Reusse seyz the management's pick (for him "he's a lock") is the Team MVP.
That sucks for me, cause
Chuck James?
