Twins 4, Pale Hose Uno
WP: Hot Carl Pavano. LP: G. Floyd
Save: I think that Pavano deserves a save here, so let's just give him one.
Twins Record: 27-39, 8.5 games out of first. Wait, what?
Over the last three games the Twins have won three games. More specifically they've won 8 of their last 10. Which is huge. Who needs Joe Mauer anyway? Oh, right, we do.
By the numbers, this was Carl's night. He worked nine innings on 96 pitches, 66 of which were strikes, facing 32 batters. Carl struck out five, walked three, and allowed one earned run. A total of four double plays were turned behind Carl tonight including a 3-6-1 gem that would have impressed kelly wells. The offensive numbers weren't bad either. The MVP had three stolen bases, which doubled his total on the year. Cuddy also went 2-3 and scored two runs. Sweet Ben Revere went 2 for 4 with a double, raising his average to .282, and stole a bag in the sixth. Cassilla went 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Even Dinkelman had a good night at the dish by going 2 for 3 with an IBB. Clearly, opposing teams fear the Dinkeldonger. Carl made it interesting in the last inning by allowing a leadoff hit followed by a double. Pavano then manned up and struck out Carlos Quentin, caught a smoking hot come-backer, and got AJ "assclown" Pierzynski to weakly ground out. That was easy.
Go get some culture at the Guthrie Theater this summer. They've staging God Of Carnage and the H.M.S. Pinafore, several conversations with actors and directors including Rainn Wilson (Dwight from the Office), and they host summer theater workshops for kids and adults.
I don't think anything can be more fun than to see Ozzie angrily talking to himself during another loss to the Twins.
Guess who was the beneficiary of Cuddy's 3 steals last night? The Lew Ford All-Stars, that's who.
Third place is safe for another day.
This is the longest into the season I've not been in or near the cellar. It's like I'm the Pirates or something.
I love baseball, but I do not love baseball games that last all day long. Time of game: 2:06. Huzzah!
Dr. Chop agrees with you. Oh, wait, she doesn't love baseball at all.
This is my burden as well. Some would think eight years of obsessing over something would rub off on someone, but some would be wrong.
I've been fortunate. My wife was not a sports fan at all when I met her, but has become to be a baseball fan. Her favorite team is the Mariners, but she only roots against the Twins when the two teams play each other and she enjoys going to baseball games.
Oh, I should clarify that Dr. Chop has come around to accept that Baseball is part of our lives. She really enjoys going out to the ball park, but would rather watch almost anything else on tv. Ever since she chose a Twins boyfriend, Morneau, she's been more inclined to watch the ball game.
This sums it up for me, too. The Milkmaid has never attempted to keep from watching a game, and she does like going to them. She, too, chose a Twins boyfriend (the same one I chose, essentially), but he ended up playing for a crummy team in New York.
We are also like you guys with the exception that my wife has not selected a Twins boyfriend. She does think Joe Nathan is hideous, though.
And it's not like there wasn't any offense. 17 hits, five walks. Of course, six double plays help, as do no pitching changes.
I still can't get over Brian Dinkelman leading the Twins in intentional walks. Of course, having Tolbert and one of the catchers hitting behind you helps, but still. Fear the Dink!!!11!!
I don't think we will be hearing about the possibility of Valencia being replaced by Hughes much longer. Hughes was abused last night by Floyd, who wasn't particularly good and never had to change his approach to Hughes. He just threw Hughes slider after slider and Hughes could not adjust to it. Valencia's clutch double after Hughes' third strikeout was sweet.
