We've got such pithy comments for our milestones, don't we?
This reminds me, I will have to dig out the old plaque template and make a WGOM HoF page soon.
Many people prefer Out Of the Park Baseball to Diamond Mind, and for good reasons. But DMB just cracks me up sometimes. I'm playing with the 1989 Twins and this happened:
Jerry Browne takes his place in the box
walked last time up
geeze
the game now being delayed
there's a STREAKER out in center field
and the BEST thing that can happen to him
is that he'll spend the night in the hoosegow
the WORST
is that he might be caught by Puckett
who just might kick him in the BUTT
ok, back to the business at hand
here's the delivery
hit sharply on a line to third
where it's GLOVED by Gaetti for the out!
Wow.
Heh: @LaVelleNeal: So sorry about the blog. I hit change instead of ignore, and most of the names don't make sense. Just tried to fix them on the phone.
Gladys! Heh heh 🙂
I also love Jeff Smashup
That is fantastic, and perhaps the best thing of all is that at the end, "Francisco Liriano" is spelled perfectly.
This is the perhaps the best video you have ever played here, doc. (Not sure what you've done on your knitting blog...)
Due to popular demand bothering me until I cave, I've created (with Sean's help, natch) a page up top that contains a list of our 18(!) headers, and who's responsible.
The only one I'm not totally sure of is Twayn's. Twayn, if you didn't send me the Target Field header, let me know.
And now 19(!) headers. Someone slow hungry joe down already!
never!
(i have a good idea for another one, actually, but i'll hold off for now)
Unlike my esteemed colleague, jobu, I can assure you that this is my final entry.
Game 89 is in half an hour and socal isn't here, nor do I see a draft being prepared. Pinch-hitters at the ready.
This isn't like socal, though. Maybe he's typing it up offsite.
Hi from Lake Stevens, WA. We drove all night from Avon, CO, and got here at 6:40 a.m. I'm having computer access issues, so I'll need someone to pinch hit for today's game log and yesterday's recap. I can do LTEs from my phone but not posts.
speaking of pinch-hitters, I will need one for the game log intro for Monday, July 25 (7:05 start at Rangers), please.
Well, that's a big goal by Wambach.
Especially with the US getting hosed the whole game.
score???
2-2
US wins on penalties 5-3.
It was a pretty insane game.
cool.
I saw a chunk of Japan-Germany yesterday. I thought Japan played a pretty good game. They put a reasonable degree of pressure on the Germans. Perhaps they are better than everyone thought?
TC has been defeated:
@TC_00
TC Bear
The reign is over. I was defeated in preliminary round of hr derby. Good luck to Slider of the Indians in the finals.
I'll just assume that TC got injured, and that Spikes was actually taking part in the derby dressed up as him. (Although you'd think the officials would notice that Spikes was a giant red Bird and not a bear. Perhaps they just think all mascots look the same, and just went by the number and the uniform.)
This is disappointing. It has always been a point of pride for me.
Up: Delmon and Plouffe
Out: Iceman and Rene Rivera
Oooh, back to 2 catchers. Does this mean Mauer will never play first again? Maybe we can put Delmon at first.
This is why the Twins wanted to have Mauer at first so they could go back to two catchers. Gardy is terrified of losing the DH early in the game, so he doesn't like DHing his backup catcher. Put Mauer at first, then if Butera gets hurt or has to be pinch-hit for, Mauer can go behind the plate and you just need to find someone to play first base. That is also why the Twins wanted Plouffe to be able to play first base, so when Hughes is in the lineup somewhere, Plouffe can come off the bench to play first if Mauer has to leave first to be the catcher.
Plouffe???
Sure, he's been raking at Rochester lately, but where's he gonna play? and if he's gonna take the Luke Hughes utility spot, why keep Hughes up?
or tolbert...
Well, if Thome is done for a while, I guess Plouffe can DH. At least he probably won't whine about it, the way it sounds like all the regulars do.
I find it questionable to make these moves now, when there aren't any games being played for a bit. Couldn't it have waited a couple days? I guess there's no harm in doing it now, I'm just not sure what the benefit of doing it right now is.
He can play more positions than Rene Rivera, that's for sure.
He's been the super sub in Rochester, I think he's played everywhere but center field and catcher. I agree he's a bit redundant with Hughes on the roster, but he's been hitting so good we may as well call him up. Maybe he can be the Twins' Zobrist.
I'm still in Phoenix. The Milkmaid, Skim, Sour Cream and I went to the community pool, and we were in the water not two minutes before a dust storm (my first ever!) came barreling at us. It wasn't a real bad one, but it's hard to open the eyes, and hard to breathe unless you curl up into a ball facing the right direction.
The girls didn't seem to think it was a big deal, although Skim was pretty peeved that we had to get out of the water.
Aside from sand getting everywhere, dust storms are awesome.

I assume that this is high noon?
I wish I remembered. I want to say early afternoon.
Since it wasn't strong enough to be destructive, it really did look cool.
I hope for accompaniment you cued up an appropriate Woody Guthrie song about the Dust Bowl.
Alas, some tweens at the pool had brought a CD player and were playing Natasha Bedingfield's "Pocketful of Sunshine" over and over, and it's been stuck in my head since. Truly, a black mark on an otherwise cool and singular experience.
Thankfully, I have no idea who that is.
Storm in SBGville tonight. 50 year old trees on Butch's yard down, one of them on Butch's house. No power. Bailing out the sump hole.
Ack! My parents had been watching that storm move across when I talked to them while waiting at the airport. Be careful!
Best wishes to you and the family, Stick.
sorry to hear that, boss. looks like minneapolis is next. stay safe, everyone.
Yikes, good luck with that, SBG.
Dido. Stay safe, everyone.
Batten the hatches, sir.
Now you're speaking my language six!
Holy balls. Stay safe, and god speed.
Your actual storm makes my minor dust storm seem even weaker than it was.
Be safe.
Hang in there, Stick & family. I hope the damage isn't extensive.
this got lost in the recent hubbub:

There's an App for that.

Here is the story of the real Omar Little from The Wire. If you haven't seen The Wire but plan to sometime, there is a major spoiler in the first paragraph.
