can someone explain to me the love for Rene Tosoni? I see him as a OF version of Matt Tolbert
We like Canadians???
He's already matched Tolbert's career HR total. He's no real prospect, but in the minors he got on base well and has some gap power. He could be like a Randy Bush.
Just caught up on the highlight videos.
1) Delmon is a Thome longball magnet!
2) Best part of Revere's great catch: after throwing the ball in, watching him chuckle to himself as he stands at the wall afterwards.
I'm glad that Gentleman Jim isn't resting on his 600 laurels.
gotta make hay while the sun shines still wearing a TC cap
Got to catch and pass A-Rod.
I really, really want him ahead of Sosa.
At this rate, he will pass him in a week (607)!
he needs 610 to pass him. two weeks
I stand corrected. SS is indeed at 609, not 607. A-Rod at 626, so Thome can pass him by season's end. Now THAT would redeem this season for me.
Do you suppose we can get Jeff Gillooly an invite to one of Leo's poker games?
Game log!
Santiago looked out to me
replay confirms that
Robo-ump agrees.
w00t.
REVERE!
Warning: Human highlight reel on display.
And Revere is a Delmon bomb magnet
Atteberry, on Revere's fielding: "He can go equally well in all four directions."
Me: Delmon could only go well in one direction: down.
Speed kills. Morney!!!
If Tosoni can get his butt on base, Mr. Bases Loaded Automatic should take care of things. Big "if" though
Yoko is Mr. Bases Loaded Automatic?
well, 1.000 OPS isn't automatic, I guess, but as close as we get outside of Danny V
Let me guess, the bases havn't been loaded very often for Nish.
Isn't that a give with this year's team? Nine times.
Remember a few years back when we had the bases loaded 2-3 times a game? (And couldn't score.)
Yeah, me neither.
That's like those dark years when the Twins defense was always a leader in turning DPs. Because, you know, they always had a ton of baserunners to double up.
And sorry, Google translate is flaky Japanese -> English. That should have read "Aromatic"
I really liked the live lobster vending machine. It's dinner AND an arcade game!!!!
How far did that passed ball get away from the catcher? I find it somewhat amusing Morneau could get to 3rd, but Thome couldn't make 2nd.
it's all about paying attention and being heads-up.
and somewhat fleet of foot, as well, I guess
It's the fleet of foot thing I was chuckling at, because Morneau isn't exactly fast, but Thome makes him look Revereian.
Oh, I knew where you were going with that. Morneau had to have been poised for something like that to hustle on over.
Thome is going to get worn out with all this 3-2 base running
bunt..really Nishi?
Boo.
pretty good pitch placement by Penny. Nishi wasn't gonna do anything useful with that, but he pretty much had to swing.
plouffed.
It appears that Babe Ploof ain't ready for the Major League level.
jeeze, Pavano cant get a break with his infield defense
thought I knew the trivia question answer off the top of my head. fail.
no way my second guess makes it in time
what was the question? I WW.
What former Twins player came in to end Ripken's consecutive inning streak. My initial answer was Jeff Reboulet.
Chris Gomez?
Not a bad guess. No, he's a current manager now.
Cornbread Manuel? (heh.)
Ron Washington. Sept. 14, 1987.
yep. not a guess I would have made
me neither.
Carry 'em home, kids. I'm outa here.
Does Penny get the same K pic as Pavano?
I'm lazy enough to say sure, why not?
Was he getting some of that, too?
he's a ballplayer, which means yes, he was.
oh geez, why aren't we just throwing at Peralta each AB?
Alyssa Milano is to MLB ballplayers as Elisha Cuthbert is to NHLers. Or Winona Ryder was to alt-rockers.
I thought Alyssa worked the ice rinks as well?
Tonsils says, "Up yours, wattsy!"
Hey! Some give-back runs on the receiving end! Nice
Iced!
Tosoni's earned his poutine tonight!
Meanwhile, Matt Capps begins to plot absconding with the Canadian's decadent snack.
that banner is going to end up wider than Capps at this rate
I wouldn't be surprised to see a pile of crumpled up empty cans of Labatt Blue in the bullpen.
Checking in outside a BP in central WI. On way home from family vacay in Chi-Town. Yay Thome!
Did you have a good time?
Pretty good time. But, this drive home, not so much. I'm 315 pages into The CORRECTIONS. Dude needs to write more books.
He will. He's young(ish).
And not hindered by David Foster Wallace anymore...
A Confederacy of Oprah Fans?
He's hinted that he was competing with DFW to write a better novel.
That reminds me, I should get back into "Infinite Jest"
I started, and stopped, reading The Pale King recently. I really enjoyed the foreword by his editor explaining the circumstances surrounding the construction of the novel.
I'm gonna blame the 3 Hefeweizens on an empty stomach for causing me to confuse Kennedy Poole with Foster Wallace.
aw, craps
Oy, that was exciting.
Even with the Nishioka pause they got him at the plate.
p*ssy singles hitter * 2
Dude is well past due.
by the sounds of it, a furshlugginer wave is making it's way around the stadium
[Tomei.jpg]
Ah frack. its wednesday already? I'm an A$$hat. Thanks DK.
Yvette and Yvonne! I haven't thought of them since my cousin showed me his stash of SI swimsuit issues and they awakened something in a young Milkman...
Southwest is running some sweet tickets between STL and MSP; I really wish Gene would get back to me so I can book my trip before the price dries up...
Having no arm came into play there.
Sorry guys, that one's on me. I just got back from the gym*
*My bedroom.
so, that's what the kids are calling it these days. "Going to the gym."
If only...
oh, no, I assumed you were working out by yourself. 😉
Man I just really confused there for a moment whenI was reading through the scoring plays to get up to speed and it said "Delmon Young out on sacrifice fly to center fielder Ben Revere"
Capps left his r back in the bullpen tonight.
I think Perkins took it.
PERkins
He wants poutine...
The Iceman is having himself a decent game, at least looking at the box score.
I didn't really care if we won until Valverde came in.
Speed Kills.
Bush League
/Verlander
How will they get a triple play here?
we had BETTER score more with a no-outs bases loaded situation than the Tigers did with theirs.
there you go
B I N G O !
Mountie!!!!
Love, love, love "In Play, Run(s)"
Mountie!
MORNEAU SAYS "POUTINE, EH?!"
Tolbot's programming sucks.
Somebody has to take up the "UNO!" mantle now that _elm_n is gone.
From nibbish:
A personal favorite
It did work for Nishioka and Revere.
Only because they were trying to get out.
Tolbert is injured (hand?); he wasn't going to swing away anyway
He could've at least tried to get hit by a pitch.
oooh, good point
After this series I can see Delmon getting knocked back to the 7th spot.
Take away those two highlight catches by Revere early in this game, and elmn's line looks pretty good.
Obligatory. Now time for the double play.
Is a run obligatory now, too?
It was this game.
okay, I don't want to use "furshlugginer" twice in the same game log
If the score gets tied up or Detroit takes the lead, I'll allow it.
*whew*
Scheiße! Ricky Nolasco has given up 11 ER in 3 IP. Of course, he started for me today.
I demand puppies shooting fireworks at tigers!
Tigers? Red Necks? What's the diff?
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LG1-AdWKe5A
Whew. That was easy.
I dont know why Gardy didnt pinch hit Butera for Tolbert in the 9th. big deal if there are 2 catchers in the lineup that late in the game, at least get a guy who can swing the bat and maybe can get it in the outfield and score more runs. If Butera has to fill in somewhere, well the pitcher has to bat. oh well.
Tosoni keeps hitting HRs after I say something to the effect 'why is he on this team?' keep proving me wrong man!
Butera was Gardy's LAST position player on the bench, and the game certainly could have gone extra innings. Radio guys suggested Nathan batting for himself would have been an option.

They used to have vending machines that trafficked in that.
I did NOT need to go there! Heh heh - gah
