The home teams have it in these series as all home teams won Game 1. I like these situations since any road team that wins Game 2 would be going home with a split and all the momentum.
The best matchup of the day will be the late game, which features to former Cy Young Award winners still in peak form. Of course, for the Phillies, this is their No.2 starter with a couple more ace pitchers in the wings, so if the Cardinals do pull this one out, they still have a long row to hoe.
Cabrera with a two-run homer for a 2-0 Tigers lead. Sigh...so conflicted.
That's why I'm finding the NL far more interesting. I can find a significant reason to dislike all four AL teams, so I'm basically hoping for Tampa as the least un-likeable. (sorry, Longoria's hat commercial still makes me think of him as a dumb douche.)
A commercial?! Dude, everyone's looked like a dumb douche in at least one commercial...
I never said they were good reasons, just significant. Also, Johnny Damon.
Oh, I'll give you that.
Easy to walk people when the strikezone loses the bottom foot.
Even harder when it shrinks to postage stamp. The home plate ump should be dismissed right now.
Good game by Scherzer so far today. Not exactly pretty, but good nonetheless.
Y'all should be watching this Max Scherzer character.
All thanks to a Jeter error. Awesome.
"There are left fielders than can make that play. Delmon Young isn't one of them."
Too bad it ends the no-hitter.
The game's still in a good place, but a no-hitter against the Yankees would have been sublime.
Willie Bloomquist and his 79 OPS+ just led off for the Diamondbacks. Predictably, he made the first out of the game.
He's been doing that for a while now, including the game I attended. I just shook my head. If it helps, the crowd didn't go nuts for him like crowds sometimes do for no-game futility guys.
At one point yesterday, the spork was 2-3.
The problem is, he doesn't want to ruin his former teammate's chance at a perfect game.
And we have, to my knowledge, our first fair/foul error by an ump in the Arizona-Milwaukee game.
Criminy, its raining again in NY? This looks like another one that probably shouldn't continue.
At this point, it would be over, right? They don't suspend it if they have this much of the game decided?
Of course, if this is grounds for calling it a loss, New York won't be calling it any sooner than they have to.
I figured they ought to have delayed it, but now it looks like the rain has lessened considerably anyway.
I'd love to go watch the Yankees lose this game, but Valverde is pitching...
Part of me really wants to see Detroit get swept in this series, especially if Valverde is the one blowing it.
That would be bittersweet, yet probably still satisfying.
The on-deck circle giveth and the on-deck circle taketh away.
Am I going to go to the heartbreaking end of the season game for the Diamondbacks? I have no interest in that, even though I like the Brewers just fine.
You'll be at the exciting, come-from-behind win to save the season for the D-Backs.
Cards tie up the series. No more double points for me, but I approve of additional postseason baseball.
My home team is the only one that hasn't won in the postseason yet. Not liking this.
Should you be used to that by now?
Yeah, I'm definitely afraid that all I've done is bring the opposing-sweep magic to Arizona.
