World Series Game 2

Rangers at Cardinals
Colby Lewis vs. Jaime Garcia

I think this matchup favors Garcia - if they're not careful, the media-favored Rangers could be in big trouble here.

  1. Colby Lewis has the kind of stuff to be able to dominate. Also, I would think the Rangers would typically feast on lefties.

  2. EAR is running errands. Toddler AJR is in bed. HPR and CER are watching Disney's Peter Pan, and don't have to go to bed for another hour. I've cracked open a can of SurlyFest, I've turned off the sound on Fox and I'm playing Merle Haggard. Should be a good 40 mins or so...

    1. EAR watched most of the game with me last night and actually took an interest. She said she could because there were what? 5 game left? That way I wouldn't get any ideas. She's equally opposed to Feldman's and Motte's beards, which she calls "Squirrels". I think she feels she has to be loud about that stuff because she knows that without her to say no, there so go I.

    2. This might be my first listening to Merle*, but I probably should go get those three other double-album reissues sitting in the used bin at the Fetus. He's not Cash, but he's not bad. He's got little of the treacly sentiment that turned me off of C&W music in my formative years.

      1. I'm telling you, listening to music while watching sports is the way to go. I hardly ever listen to the broadcast, whether it's DicknBert or some national crew. Hockey, Football, Soccer, Baseball, doesn't matter the sport.

        1. I'm just tasting his late 60's stuff.
Cool thing I learned from the liner notes: Merle was an inmate in the audience of Johnny Cash's first concert at San Quentin in 1959 (not the album concert from 1969).

    3. You've inspired me to watch with PJ Harvey's Let England Shake over the broadcast. George Jones Gospel Greats (if I stay up that long) on deck. Radio Boca Tempernillo in the glass.

  3. It seems I'll miss the middle innings, at least, for Skim's parent-teacher conferences. On the upside, she got near-perfect grades, so I don't expect them to take very long.

    1. At one of my parent teacher conferences my father went to, I was given straight As. So the teacher spent the conference discussing my inability to use scissors. My father, in his wonderful way, told her he didn't think that was a big idea.

I still can't use a scissors for what it's worth.

  4. It's good to be home. In a show of solidarity, I'm going to Occupy My Couch until the game is over.

  5. LNP! Getting a hit so the leadoff hitter and not the pitcher can lead off the 6th!

  6. I like that this game is moving along quickly. Maybe I can get to bed at a reasonable hour!

  7. Oh, that steal was probably not the best call Wash has made. Not as bad as doing crack, but not that much better.

    1. Despite this, I would be in support of swapping the official scorer with Tim McCarver, if that's what he wants to do.

    2. Yes, but Pujols had a very unimpressive last few innings. First, he half-assed his way and didn't even make it to first base by the time his 390 foot flyball was caught and then he botched the cut-off. And yes, he royally botched the cut-off. We didn't have the sound on, but my grandfather and I were both all over how badly he screwed it up (he didn't move to get into position until it was too late). I don't watch many Cards games, but Pujols always seems to dog just as many plays as Manny B. Manny did yet he never seems to get called out on it.

    1. You mean the walkoff squeeze with Punto just barely beating out the throw by sliding head first into first base?

      No wait, Punto can't bunt.

  8. I'd like to see this series go to 7 games just to hear Deford bitch. Actually, I'm beginning to dislike Tejas fans more than Bosox fans. They are the worst kind of fair weather (at least in my neck of the woods).

  9. Still one of my greatest contributions to society from my time as a blogger (which means I definitely have the right to embed the image even if it's being hosted by another friend of ours):

    Punto bunt

  10. NooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

My recording of the game got LaRussa'd!!! I added an extra half-hour to the record time, and still it ran out after the top of the 9th (got to see the Rangers score their two runs and Beltre Uno to finish the inning).
