Royals are the only AL Central team ranked ahead of the Twins. White Sox dead last. It could be ugly for quite awhile on the South Side of Chicago. The Twins could jump in the ranking with a good draft in June.
I really like my dentist, but I hate going to the dentist. It's all related to my irrational fear of hypodermic needles. I was actually in just last week getting fitted for a new crown. I developed a cavity in the tooth stump right above the old crown and my dentist, Walt Waldowski, couldn't fix it without removing the old crown. That sucker was made of gold, which is now too expensive to use in dental work (insurance won't cover it). My new crown will be made of zirconia. On the bright side, I'm sending my old crown in for recycling and should get about $60 bucks or so for it. But I might just hang on to it since I don't have any gold in my portfolio.
I can't imagine how I would react to a doctor repairing my teeth with office supplies from Staples, but it wouldn't be good.
Two new banners today - meat's "WGOM Promises" and free's "Love-Face." I can barely keep up with these now that the Wolves are worth mentioning.
oh, wow, guys...
aw, damnit, i just had a good idea now too, but we're amassing pek banners at a fast clip...
Interesting few days around here. The job search has switched back to Prague after the lady got a job there. I've had a few nibbles, so I might be on a plane as soon as next week. Plus, she's in town this week, which will be the 6th week we've had together since the end of July, about a week per month. That number gets ever worse when you consider that 4 of those weeks were in a row. So, very exciting stuff happening here. Now to top off the day and go see Omar.
Omar is still a roly-poly as ever, and it's always nice to see my sister. Luckily, the weather cooperated and the drive was as nice as you can expect this time of year.
Fingers crossed they put Cabrera at the hot corner.
so, you're going to have fielder, cabrera, and v-mart all signed through 2014? that doesn't make too much sense to me. yeah, it's a good problem to have in a sense, but that seems like an inefficient use of resources.
It could be high comedy if they have to play two of those guys in the field at all times, along with _elmon.
Isn't Victory out for the season? Still, any two of Fielder, Cabrera and Delmon in the field leaves a lot of open space out there.
Yeah, he is. I'm just thinking next year and/or the year after. I'm hoping to see all three of Wife Beating Scumbag, Prince, and _elmon in the field at once a few times when the Twins play them. Tee hee.
Yes, but that still leaves 2013 and 2014 fielding the four. Even more open space. Maybe Cabrera gets moved to right field or something? Hey, it worked for the Twins, mostly.
Yeah, when I saw bhiggum's post that's what I was expecting.
Well, that's $214M they can't spend elsewhere.
I don't look forward to our flyball pitchers facing off with Fielder, but that is a sick amount of money to offer a guy with no defensive value when you're not in one of the biggest markets. I'd get a short signing if they were just going for broke in 2012, and maybe that's what they wanted but they had to gamble because Prince wouldn't take a shorter deal.
I dunno, man. I can see another dark age for the Tigers on the horizon, although admittedly, I might be saying that just because I hope it happens.
Detroit's not Philadelphia, but at least one ranking I've seen still has them as the 11th-biggest media market in the US, and while Michigan certainly has economic issues, I get the impression that Detroit is a good sports market, and it seems like that can make a big difference.
It probably helps that Mike Ilitch is a billionaire.
why? pohlad was too...
I don't know many billionaires personally, but as a group they strike me as being rather tight with their money.
It always struck me funny that the guys who have the most money are the least willing to use it.
I mean, I get that that's one of the ways people get rich in the first place, but when you've got nine zeroes at the end of your net worth, it's time to get a bit careless for a while.
When I think of Detroit, I definitely think of the economic issues first...even so, 11th surprises me.
As of today, the Twins have Joe Mauer on a 7-year, $161M deal and the Tigers have Prince Fielder on a 9-year, $214M deal. Mauer is one year older than Fielder. Which contract would you rather have?
Prince Fielder hits home runs. Mauer hits the saunas and cries like a babby about his knees. Fielder for me!!!!! /strib

well, all these stories about how Morneau is trying to come back 100% and Mauer is coming back stronger and better---won't matter a bit---this division is going to be won by the Tigers for years to come--they are serious while the Twins try and "reduce" their salary. LOL. So, the Tigers win the division and then the wildcard will be either the Yanks, Red Sox, Rays, Rangers, or Angels depending on who wins the divisions. The only chance for the playoffs was winning the Central--now that goes out the door. The Twinks will get hammered this year. Bank on it.
Pretty impressive spelling for a Stribby, I must admit.
hold on, i'm still thinking...
Fielder's best fWAR for a season was 6.1. Mauer has topped that three times and was at 5.9 fWAR in 2010. Fielder's fWAR the last three seasons was a total of 14. Mauer's was 15.1. Fielder is one year longer, but his contract is two years longer and worth slightly more per. Not a very difficult decision. Nevermind the Tigers already are committed to two 1b/DHs.
plus, we all know that Joe can move to third base.
Glad they got it done without going to five years. Would have been worth it if they had to, but it's nice to keep their options open, which is something Kahn hasn't always done very well.
no one else is confirming the story and Love says this

If you read it on the Internet it must be true right? #sarcasm
well, hmmph
I would like to take back a few exclamation points for now.
Avs-Wild is on NBC Sports tonight. My favorite team is playing my semi-adopted team, so that's what I'll be watching until "Justified".
I'll be watching too, because the State of the Union is on every channel and my usual shows are not on
I have a bottle of wine, an Avs game, and "Justified" on in half an hour. Good night.
1-0 Avs early....game over?
Just tied it up. Not good PK from the Avs.
a Wild PP goal is like finding a $20 bill rolling down the street

2-2, not a bad thing to have on the previous channel.
But 2012 is the year, and you got it right!! Small victories!
Hey, I've gotten it, like, half the time now (but still, I have to correct it every time because muscle memory still wants to make it 2011).
Is it Thursday?
How could one possibly know such a thing?
Nope
Perhaps this is what you were thinking of.
Surly comes in cans. Wise counsel, Padre.
And by the way, Jeff: is this what you're looking for?
Looks like it. I probably won't have time to do anything about it today, but I may change back later. Thanks!
I just figured that you'd decided to turn the other cheek, Padre.
It's crap like this that makes your LTE count suspect.
And so, so worth it.
π
I am thinking this is more likely for spooky.
Ooh, that works too. I'm not a big awards show guy, but it is a good way to keep "movies I have to see" in one place.
Now's the time that I scramble to start seeing a few of them before the show.
Sickels releases his farm system rankings. The Twins are #17.
Royals are the only AL Central team ranked ahead of the Twins. White Sox dead last. It could be ugly for quite awhile on the South Side of Chicago. The Twins could jump in the ranking with a good draft in June.
Another reason not to Earl Battey Earl Battey.
yet another thing that Mauer can't do.
Only if you mean doing it only once.
naw, I meant get only one hit in a season.
Mauer just needs a few more wimpy years to reach that I think.
Think you hate your dentist?
It can be worse.
I really like my dentist, but I hate going to the dentist. It's all related to my irrational fear of hypodermic needles. I was actually in just last week getting fitted for a new crown. Good luck. Sounds like things are looking up.
Is this lady a new lady, or your Mo Chailín?
Same mc.
So apparently the Tigers are going to sign Prince Fielder. There goes all my optimism for 2012. Nine years, $214 million.
swapping one gold-glover for another one.
Fingers crossed they put Cabrera at the hot corner.

Then he signs him to a huge contract.

Heh, I don't think they know what they're doing in DC. (in any sport, really.)
Washington forgot to hire Dewayne Casey for a year
