Game 30: Charlotte Bobcats @ Minnesota Timberwolves

The Charlotte Bobcats are a bad team. They are 3-25 on the year and are on a 15 game losing streak and their last win was a month ago. They havent scored a 100 points since that win, and have only score 90+ twice on this losing streak. But, the Timberwolves are playing a stretch of bad basketball (4 straight losses) with tons of turnovers (20.5 p/g in that streak) and relatively poor shooting (41% down from their 42% season average...I was shocked that its 41%, but I am guessing Pek!'s high shooting percentage makes up for what seems like 100 misses from outside of 10 feet).

I guess my point is that the Wolves should win this one easily, but the Wolves are not a good enough team to commit 25 turnovers and win the game, even against the crappiest team in the league. Also, you might need a roster list because a bunch of their players are 'really, they are still in the league?!' and Kemba Walker

  1. Amazingly enough, having one really good PF, a PG who does everything but score tons of buckets, and a dominating bull of a C is not enough to overcome the giant black holes of suckage coming from the SG and SF positions.
Will the newly-recalled Lee get a lot of playing time tonight, do you think?

      1. I'm not sure if AR can get any further into RA's doghouse, but he's sure buried way back in there, ain't he?

        1. no kidding. he has only played 18 of 30 games, and his last appearance was last Wed against Memphis (his only game this month)

  2. Incredibly, the Woofs are only fourth in the league in turnovers (476 in 29 games, compared to 488 in 30 for the Knicks) and sixth in turnover percentage (err, rate: .151, compared to .159 for OKC; league average is .142), while playing at the second highest pace in the league (94.1 possessions/48 minutes, compared to Denver's 95.9; league average is 91.4). The Wolves also are above average (4th) in free throws attempted per FGA, a measure of points-in-the-paint. This despite being below average in effective FG pct (and 6th in 3PA, with a fugly .325 rate)

It's a simple game. Step one: Take care of the ball. Step two: better perimeter shooting AND defense. Step three: profit.

  3. Wes should get himself into position for alley oops from Rubio more often. That's a much higher percentage shot than the barrage of timid, long, contested 2s the dude takes.

  4. I swear I saw the Wild's Cal Clutterbuck sitting courtside in between the Bobcats bench and the scorer's table

  5. Does Barea know you're allowed to pass after you start a drive? He's like some of the old basketball videogames where you get stuck in an animation.

  6. looks like the Sac Town Kings are going to move to Seattle soon (twitter)

    1. Wow. I spent some time walking around after some meetings in Seattle and found a building with a giant Detlef Schrempf mural. That was an unexpected treat.

    2. I will believe it when I see it. Not a sniff of that around here today.

from one of the local tv stations today:

Hedge fund manager, Christopher Hansen, reportedly approached Seattle, saying he hoped to buy a team and build a new arena there for them to play. In one email, Hansen updates officials in Seattle about the efforts to build a new arena for the Kings in Sacramento.

Arena backers in Sacramento said they are not very concerned about the Seattle effort and that, for now, Sacramento is in the driver's seat.

so, basically, it is a non-story. There is no evidence that the Maloofs are selling.

  7. I think both teams just had their optimal outcomes on defense.

The Wolves forced a Biyambo turn-around jumper that airballed.

The Bobcats let Wes take a long two that barely drew iron.

    Oof.

    1. Wes Johnson: please go play basketball somewhere else.

I'm not going to call what he does "playing basketball".

      1. Everyone but Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, Nikola Pekovic, and Rick Adelman: please go play basketball somewhere else.

        I'll go farther.

          1. Yeah I regretted including him in there. He can stay. And I suppose one other person so they have a full team. Though I'd think that four player team would be better than some of the rotations.

        1. I would be ok with keeping Ridnour around to back up Rubio. (Barea has been soo bad that I've come to be ok with Luke.) But other than that, I'm in agreement.

  8. I hate it when some guy in Spain doesn't register his Firefox and doesn't close the window on his screen.

      1. Hey, it's gone immediately after I complain about it! Now I'm going to be paranoid for the rest of the night.

          1. I thought it was a metaphor for a Rubio pass off of a screen that resulted in a turnover!

  9. This must be what it felt like to be any team playing against the wolves for the last 7 years.
