I have a three-day "weekend" from Tuesday-Thursday that's really all I can think about. The shifts around it will be brutal, but I'll take it.

During my only two full-time jobs, my weekends were 1) Monday-Tuesday and 2) Sunday-Monday. That made for a somewhat frustrating social life (although (1) was while Sheenie and I were in a long-distance thing so it wasn't that big of a deal) although it helped me save a lot of money by never going out with friends.
So, who else thinks that Joe Posnanski's next book will define him?
He's got a needle to thread, that's for sure.
It's pretty hard to write a glowing book about Joe Paterno without acknowledging that if Penn State didn't have this iconic football program, Sandusky would, in all likelihood, never have been protected like he was. It was for the sake of Paterno's baby and all of the power and money that it generated that the University allowed this to continue. Sandusky still had access to the facilities until about a year ago! I'm finding it hard to see how this doesn't vastly outweigh all of the good that the football program might have done.
I'm glad I don't have to write it, that's for certain.
So Capps "wants to be out there" but Mauer "has to tell (Gardy) he's ready." C'mon, Gardy. Why don't you just start the boos yourself. You protect Capps but your All-Star catcher you throw under the bus?
ugh. Im not a 'fire Gardy' guy, but his flippant attitude towards Mauer (in the press) is not cool.
I said during the game log last night, why not retroactively DL Capps and get a fresh shoulder after the 15 days and get a reliever from AAA or AA (Slama!). Instead, we get Jeffs Gray and Manship giving up runs everyday
Slama's got a broken leg.
he should rub some dirt on it and get back on the mound.
What I got out of those articles was that Gardy is not capable of tactfully talking about injuries regarding Mauer and that the articles were written crappily. With the Capps article, the writer specifically mentions "they" are keeping Capps out. (as does Gardy). With Mauee, I'd bet a six pack there is a medical personnel on the other end of it as well. Also, I'd bet Capps has to say he's ok too, but neither fits the narrative.
That all said, I'm gettig pretty close to jumping on the fire Gardy wagon because of shit like this. Honestly, how f@$&ing hard is it to tell the press that Mauer is dying to get back out there but he can't f@$&ing run. Also, what happened to TR being the only one to talk about injuries. Can we start doing that, please?
I thought he wasn't going to discuss injuries this year?
This seems like as good a place as any to mention that I noticed the GCL Twins have a player named Will Hurt.
The pussy is in the lineup today. Meow!
Man, that comments section is full of angry dudes. I'm just not sure that Joe's reputation can ever be rebuilt after the last year's unmitigated PR disaster.
Those wonderful commenters had better remeber how much they 'loved' watching him play and how proud they are of him when he gets his hall of fame plaque.
Right, like that'll ever happen. He'll probably pull a hammy sitting for the portrait.
the thing is, Mauer got hurt on a play where he tried not to get hurt. He gave Rickie Weeks a ton of room to slide into home base, and Weeks took it upon himself to run into Mauer.

From Shooter, so take it with the usual rather large grain of salt, but still:
Glen Perkins' effectiveness as Twins closer seems to make a trade of Matt Capps inevitable.
The only way Capps gets traded is if the Twins eat half his salary. I don't see it.
They only owe him $2.25M the rest of the year and half his salary would barely be over $1M. That's chump change when they have a payroll of almost $100M.
Isn't he under contrct for next year too? I meant half of the remaining contract.
Matt Capps rhp
1 year/$4.75M (2012), plus 2013 option
1 year/$4.75M (2012), plus 2013 option
re-signed by Minnesota as a free agent 12/6/11
12:$4.5M, 13:$6M option ($0.25M buyout)
performance bonuses based on games finished
And the reality is by trading Capps they would be saving $1M since as it stands right now they will be paying him his whole salary.
And the reality is, would anyone want him?
Tough to trade a guy on the dl.
Just finished playing in a coed four-player sand volleyball tournament. We ended up tied for third (out of six), and only a little sunburnt. I'm going to be pretty stiff tomorrow.

Controversy sells.
Matt Capps is a gamer. Mauer is a p*ssy.

You can bring Slama! home to you.

I've always been a fan of Der Lauf Der Dinge.
Saturday reading: How Mike Lynn became a very very rich dude from the Metrodome
Yeah, he got revenue from Twins games. How in the hell was he able to get away with that?
because the Vikings
ruinrun everythingOk, this has gone on long enough - I just can't reliably carve out enough time to a) see the games or b) recap them on Friday nights.
I apologize for all the weeks I've missed, and if someone else would like to take my place, I'd happily step aside.
Non-submitter!
Nice goal from Spain. Spencer Hall summed it up nicely on the EDSBS twitter feed:
He couldn't make things worse.

From Cot's contracts. So, no.

Sweet.
I <6 that guy.
