  1. The first month or so might be kind of rough for our puppies while we wait for the L&R boys to get healthy.

      1. Whatever this is I can't view it unless I enter a credit card to verify my age. Seriously, the UK is weird.

      1. It angered the baseball spirits so:

Winning Percentage at home with trees: 65.4%
Winning Percentage at home without trees: 39.5%

Games better at home with trees: 12
Games better at home without trees: -2

Games ahead of best team in rest of division with trees: 6
Games ahead of best team in rest of division without trees: -54

        There's really no denying that.

        1. That's not a quote, my own research*, I just wanted to offset the stats.

*Should I think of presenting at SABR 2013?

  2. So anyone else going to the Dinosaur Jr show tonight at the Cabooze? We know Algonad "has" to spend time with his wife on her 40th :o) But if anyone else is interested, let me know, hopefully we can connect.

  3. I have job news too!

I applied and interviewed for a Director position for a small department that got merged into my Department. I completely nailed the first interview with the selection committee. You could put it on youtube as an example of how you win an interview. Seriously, we were practically singing at the end of that interview.

Of course then I got invited to a second interview with the "hiring authority." That was yesterday. It went well but not as good as the first interview. I was a little tripped up because they still asked some of those, "tell us a time you failed in an assignment and what did you do about it" questions. I thought this interview would be more about the Directorship and my plans for the Department and that's how I prepared. Anyway it went well but not as good as the first.

Oh, also I am worried that the whole thing is dialed in for a staff person from that Department. That definitely happens sometimes but I could be neurotic too. Anyway today my boss, who is the hiring authority, was doing her walk around the office see what's going on thing and when she stopped by my cube, said I did a good job and had some real thoughtful comments. She's going on vacation tomorrow through next Wednesday so I'll probably find out when she gets back.

So, I know you guys don't know this person but do you think that she stopped by and said I did a good job is a good sign or a bad sign? I'm leaning toward the later. She wasn't overly sensitive or anything but I got the feeling she was beginning to let me down easy by telling me I did a good job.

    1. My guess is that she didn't know the result yet. If she did, I don't think she makes that comment either way.

      1. If she is the hiring authority, then I'd think she'd know the result.

Could go either way. I've done the "you did a good job" pat on back for both people I've promoted and people I have not.

        1. Me too. I always urge applicants to try not to deconstruct everything the hiring manager says. The average hiring manager knows to stay professional and not say something they end up wanting to take back. They don't drop a lot of hints unless they're really bad at it.

  4. In other job news, the last two days (and today too) have been among the most stressful in my entire life. Ugh. Today the investigator is talking to other people, so hopefully it's revealed that mine is a shared perception, and not a unique view.

  5. I've been trying to get people to call me Kevin Knuckles. People keep calling me broken hand Kev.

    1. Four years after Matt Garza's ALCS MVP? It'd be less ridiculous than his 10th-place finish in the 2010 MVP voting. I wonder what random players would win MVP awards in the regular season if they had one for every four-game series.

      1. The worst part is that it makes the Twins look like goats for dealing D-young (he's only 20something!!!!ONE!!ON!!O!NO!).

        1. I care less and less about the public image of the team. The Twins are better off not paying Delmon $6M to do his thing, so I'm glad he's gone. Sure, he's going to have some hot streaks, that doesn't really bother me. It bothers me more that the Twins have no pitching at the moment.

    2. I'm fine with it if it leads to the Tigers offering him another contract. But, presuming V-Mart comes back OK there doesn't seem to be much space for him on their team next year.

  6. The Yankees still owe A-Rod $114 million and he has a no trade clause. Can they release him and eat the whole thing?

    1. No-trade clauses have been bought out all the time. $1 million or even $500,000 is generally enough. Getting out of New York might be enough.
