Have a safe and enjoyable Halloween, kiddos. I'll be wasting away at work, lamenting the fact that my costume idea was just unrealistic this year.

Hardy wins a Gold Glove and Trout does not. I think we know how the MVP voting is going to go now. I doubt it will even be close.
Span led all AL CFers in defensive rWAR and Revere led all OFers in Total Zone runs and neither win a Gold Glove.
Take your silly made up stats and go back to your mom's basement. 😉
Yep, that's about right.
And Bruno Mars has won a Grammy Award.
My wife thought he should have won more of them.
In fairness, did you see the nominees for best album last year?
Do you really think I'm someone who
caresknows about any recent music? It was sort of a rhetorical question.
In fairness, even!
Well, I'm nothing if not fair.
I would've been fine if either were finalists, to be honest. Shin Soo-Choo was worth -17 runs in right and got a nod. Francouer was also a butcher, but both guys are good at throwing runners out.
Wait a second, isn't this the same thing
peopleStribbies said made Cuddyer an awesome right fielder? It's all making sense to me now.You really think JJ Hardy is gonna win MVP?
Bold Prediction!
I laughed.
This would be more fantastic if Mr. Redemption would have won a GG.
Serious question: Will miggy buy his MVP trophy a crown?
Nah, massive diamond stud earrings.
Why, does he plan on throwing it around first?
Oh, well done. Well done indeed.
He gets a well done for this, and I got nothing for this? Boooooo. (That's Joe Mauer "Boo" not Halloween "Boo".)
(I don't really care... I just wanted an excuse to use the Joe Mauer line).
I was just thinking that a lot of the stars wear massive bling during interviews and post-game pressers...and, in many cases, during the games. I like your take better.
I figured you meant that, but with the basketball season starting yesterday and the Lakers losing, I though making a reference to Cabrera's awfulness with additional reference the the "Kobe Apology" was apt.
Like this and this....someone remind me, how do I just post those as pictures rather than links? Do I have to save it to flickr or somesuch, or can I just try to figure out the image html or URL?
You need the URL to the image. On the right, is a link to the image you can use. Then use the 'img' button and paste in the image URL.
Thanks - I'll try it for my astronomy LTE.
*Edit* Nice, thanks again!
Because the Gold Gloves are voted on by the BBWAA? The coaches vote for them, which says nothing about how the beat writers will vote.
Well, the Gold Gloves voting might have some influence on the BBWAA's voting. Because they're not stats.
Last year's awards maybe. The votes were due at the end of the regular season. Trout didn't win one last year either, so I suppose you're right.
More Disney/Lucas thoughts:
Can we now have Song of the South (at least the cartoon bits) released on DVD if Uncle Remus is digitally replaced with JarJar Binks?
For the astronomy buffs out there, check out this zoomable 9 gigapixel image of the central parts of the Milky Way Galaxy (via engadget)
Awesome. I just read this story yesterday; exciting stuff.
An image collected by ALMA: Death of the star R Sculptoris.
which refers to this, which is less about the funny and more about astronomy
That is cool.
Sugar Molecules?

CC to philo: You going to be around the Kato area during the holidays?
At some point, yes. Both extended families are about 1.5 hours from home, so we'll continue to operate from our usual home base. Which days we're traveling, I have no clue, but if you're around for any extended time, we'll overlap.
we're in the katoville area from after christmas til new years eve.
If you make it up to the Twin Cities, I think a Caucus can be hastily planned.
Yes. I think this'll be a good idea. On another note, the over on lbs gained took a hit with my trip to Ireland because I walk 4.5 miles a day and don't have access to the Butcher.
Might come down to NU around Thanksgiving, depending upon how Ma R is feeling. If so, I'll drop you a note, Phil.
for those that are fans of the show, 30 Rock will air tonight instead of tomorrow because NBC is reairing The Voice. 30 Rock has been firing on all cylinders this season.
Also, the excellent show Community will be back on Thursday nights, but will have to wait until February.
It looks like footnotes 17 and 78 may no longer be accurate in the near future.
I should add that footnote 49 is probably my favorite (although 75 gives it a good run for its money).
You are a nerd. I love it...but seriously, you're a nerd.
Also, 49 is good. I kind of liked the quote "a number of mishaps including the ball being thrown into the stands, a substitute ball was thrown to second base." in 73.
Yes, Sheenie and I are both quite nerdy in our own ways.
various reporters on the twitterz tell me the Angels traded Ervin Santana to the Royals. huh
Going strictly by the numbers, Sisk looks awfully pedestrian (minor league relievers usually aren't all that and his numbers aren't special.) Santana's velocity was down somewhat this year, but mainly his HR/FB rate was remarkably high. It's a one-year deal, which mitigates the risk for the Royals. It's probably more than he'd get on the free agent market after this season, but he might have more upside than any free agent pitchers who sign a one-year deal. And I think we've seen recently that contract terms being equal, free agents tend to pick teams with winning track records over teams with losing track records.
Anyway, seems like a pretty fair trade as long as Santana's not injured.
Rumor is they are also shopping Haren.
Haren for Ramos
do it Billy Smith
when did Haren become a Proven Closer???
MLS Cup playoffs start tonight with Houston at Chicago. In the interests of hoping for the Sounders to host the MLS Cup Final, I must hope for Houston to advance to the MLS Cup final, since Houston is the only team in the East with fewer points than Seattle. Other than that, I would generally rather see Chicago win.
Apparently NY and DC will swap the traditional home/away ordering in their two-leg series due to the impact of the hurricane on NYRB's home park. I find these two-leg series kind of fascinating since they make more sense if you think of them as a 180-minute game rather than two 90-minute games. I don't think that hosting the second leg is really that advantageous. Yes, you get the advantage if you go to extra time, but getting the first-half lead can be a bigger factor, which is easier to do if you host the first leg. I would have thought that swapping home/away would have led to some kind of modification--DC wins if it is tied after 180 minutes, or maybe it goes straight to penalties if it is tied after 180 minutes, but it's probably not a huge deal one way or another.
Go Fire!
Bummer. I tried to go to bed at 2-0, so I didn't see the Chicago goal. The Houston goal 23 seconds into the 2nd half was just brutal.
I am disappointed that there was no NBA discussion to speak of today.
I was switching back-and-forth between the Mavs dissection of the new-look Lakers and X-Men Origins: Wolverine last night. The teamwork was better between Wolverine and Sabretooth than between the Lakers. Although I liked Pau's attempt to coach Dwight Howard on FT shooting.
Also, is there a more ridiculous show on television than TNT's postgame show? It was an amusing, largely unscripted, hour-long yuckfest. Although I also enjoyed the more-scripted bit, "Who He Play For?" featuring Sir Charles trying to guess where various journeymen have landed this season.
I have been away from a computer all day. As I mentioned last night, Gasol looked great, the rest of the Lakers, not so much.
As for tonight, I am using my League Pass to watch Rockets/Pistons. I am as surprised as everyone else.

#Rockets James Harden: 19 points, 5 assists at half. He's already surpassed his 2011-12 per-game averages of 16.8 and 3.7

All MISL games are going to be streamed live for free, so if you are missing hockey and want to see goals and power plays, here's your chance.
I went to a few indoor soccer games in Indiana when I was little. It was the old CISL They were an awful lot of fun.
The Twins can now fix one of their problems.
Thanks. I really missed that story.
James Harden: 37 points, 12 assists.

cc to Greekhouse: Need help writing math journal articles?!
I see Wes Johnson with a DNP-CD tonight. Beasley 2-9 for 8 points. I sure will miss them.
At least DNP-CD is better than a line of 0 0 1 0 1 0 2 0 3 0, or some such.
