  1. repeating from last night: anyone interested in picking up the book post today? I got nothing.

      1. That would be in the best tradition of First Monday Book Day for it to show up a day or week late. πŸ™‚

  2. I may actually tune in for some of the game tonight. Considering how much I enjoy sports, it's amazing how little I care about the "national championship". Perhaps it's because the team I routinely root for has almost no chance of winning their division, let alone playing for a championship.

  3. Ugh...what a morning. School's back in session after two weeks that felt longer, and who forgot all about it? This guy. We were about ten minutes later than usual to the carpool, though it's pretty impressive what kids can get done in a very small amount of time when they suddenly have a quick deadline.

My insomnia isn't helping. It normally comes around when I'm feeling depressed, but it's been months since I had even a minor bout with depression. I'm just bored and restless or something.

    1. I get up in the evening
and I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way
      I ain't nothing but tired
Man I'm just tired and bored with myself
Hey there baby, I could use just a little help

      1. I think he's conducting an experiment. He's trying to see how stupid he can be and still cash those 4ltr checks.

        1. I think his experiment is bigger than that. He's trying to see how stupid the average 4ltr reader/viewer is so he can keep cashing those checks.

    1. On a related note, I hope the NFL engages a full inquiry on Redskins coach Shanahan and whether or not RGIII was given the ok by medical staff to go out on the field. Talk about putting the needs of the team over the health and safety of the player.

      1. I believe reports from the first time he injured it were that he was not, in fact, cleared to go. I'm guessing, cynical as I am, that he was similarly not cleared to return last night.

        1. I thought I heard the announcers yesterday paraphrasing Dr. James Andrews, his orthopedist, as saying he was cleared, but that he was holding his breath. Apparently that was b.s.

          1. Wait, the Dr. James Andrews (the one who did Adrian Peterson's ACL surgery and who knows how many Tommy John surgeries) is one of the Redskins' athletic trainers? And Shanahan isn't taking his advice (or apparently even talking to him)?
This is why I dislike Shanahan.

            1. Shanahan's a dick here, for sure, but from reports I'm hearing, Griffin completely avoided even talking to the docs on the sideline before trying to go back into the game. (the first time it was hurt, anyway. Not sure about yesterday.) So you've got an a-hole piece of leather not making sure his star QB talks to renowed dudes and an idiot star QB not willing to talk to renowned dudes. Massive fail all around.

      2. Obviously this is blowing up here in DC, Strasburg's handling v RG3. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. I was watching the 4 plays in question a couple of weeks ago, and thinking I wonder what the difference btwn concussion sideline tests and other injuries. I think that played out on Sunday. I don't think RG3 plays in yesterdays game if he didn't start against the cowboys, but that may have been best.

        Point Nationals. Maybe.

        1. The Strasburg case and the RGIII case are apples to oranges, though. Strasburg was limited to prevent injury while RGIII had the injury but was not shut down to allow it to fully heal.

          1. Closer to an previously bruised apple and an bruised that had been previously bruised apple.

          1. In a similar vein, I was happy that Webb was going to start for the Vikings instead of Ponder. That lasted until Webb's first third-down "throw".

      3. a secondary note, the field conditions in Washington were awful. Last year, the NFL warned Chicago to get new sod and the year before it was Pittsburgh. Im surprised the NFL didnt tell Washington to at least replace the middle of the field.

            1. Awe shucks. I should have known. NO EXCUSES THEN. The field was shit for less than an inch of rain and 46 degrees.

    1. oh, yea, the NY Daily News as a reliable source. Heh.

On the other hand, hahahahaha! [laugh and point .gif]

      1. Howard out indefinitely with torn labrum. Gasol out likewise with concussion. This Lakers team could miss the post season.

      1. Yep, then #2 Michigan the following Thursday. Honestly, I'm really excited to see how this stretch goes. Early conference challenges from eventual tournament teams should help this squad comprehend (and address?) their weaknesses. Hopefully, even a couple of losses will be instructive come late season/post season play.

      2. My wife is going to hate me these next few days:

Tonight: #1 Golden Domers v. #2 Mobile Homers in footbaaawl
Tuesday: #1 Gophers v. #2 Golden Domers in men's puck
        Wednesday: #8 Gophers v. #12 Illinois in men's hoops

Btw, Stick likes to make (justified)fun of the Gophers and their football program especially as it relates to the NDSU program. But overall the Gophers are doing quite well thank you. Volleyball went to elite 8; mens and womens hockey both currently ranked #1; top 10 ranking for mens BB and womens team that will probably make the tourney; Wrestling will vie for a national championship; Swimming and Diving is highly ranked; one of the better "northern school" baseball teams; and, track and field teams that are surprisingly competitive. If ol' Jer can do something with the football team Minnesota could match it's athletic department against any in the country in terms of quality. Oh and grades? Many teams sport a gpa over 3.0

          1. I have a real vague recollection that this was suppose to be played on a Saturday over the holidays but something happened. Weather?

    1. Gophers now eighth in the AP Poll, 10th in the Coaches Poll and seventh in RPI. That would make them a No. 2 seed, most likely, if they were putting the NCAA tourney together today.

  4. Sorry there were no winter baseball posts this morning. I woke up at 1:30 in the morning with stomach miserables. I am not well yet, but I have, as they say les miserables.

  5. Trip to New Orleans for St. Patrick's Day just booked. Can't wait to party with meat again.

    1. Oh, snap. I was out for the start of carnival last night and I'm finally feeling fine again.

  6. For any chess lovers out there, I would love to play you. Nibbish and I have been playing on this great smart phone app called Chess Time (by Haptic Apps), which is availabe on Iphone or Android. Great for casual play, games played over the course of several days if needed.

    my SN is CastleFreak

    1. I was in chess club in elementary school, but I haven't really played much in probably 15 years. I wish I had something on an iOS or Android platform so I could play too.

  7. Figured out my avatar issue, I hope. The e-mail address attached to my WGOM account was one that is now defunct. Of course, it's been defunct for a year now, so not sure why it was suddenly an issue.

  8. With the Twins now having an A-ball club in Cedar Rapids, my wife and I started talking about a road trip back to the old stomping grounds. We were excited about the chance to visit with Scott and Shirley, a couple that were more or less our best friends when we lived there. We last saw them about ten years ago and we used to exchange Christmas cards but had not heard from them for the past several years. So the wife decided to look them up online and get in touch. What she found was Scott's obituary; he died three years ago of cancer. So it goes.

      1. I have a St Louis trip in June or July this year. It would be awesome if I could coordinate with a CR trip.
