January 19, 2013: Workman’s Comp

I may be looking at workman's comp for the first time in my life. Bad injury last night. It's a shin injury. Sigh...I remember from eighth grade that those things last forever.

    1. When asked one time by Orioles outfielder Pat Kelly if he wanted to participate in team chapel and "walk with the lord," Weaver famously replied: ("No thanks. I'd rather walk with the (bleeping) bases loaded."

I wanted to hate the Orioles back in the early '70s (A "Palmer Mows 'em Down" card celebrating the Orioles' sweep of the Twins in the 1970 playoffs is one of my most despised possessions), but I couldn't. I loved Brooks Robinson, and very much enjoyed The Earl's antics.

      1. from the same obit:

Throughout his managing career, Weaver, who was fond of saying the secret of his success was, "pitching, defense and the three-run homer," was famous for his eschewing of the sacrifice bunt and giving up an out. "When you play for one run, that's usually all you get," he snarled, adding: "I have nothing against the bunt in its place, but most of the time that place is in the bottom of a long-forgotten closet."

        1. Weaver on outs:

"There are only three an inning, and they should be treasured. It's such a basic fact that fans sometimes forget it, but an inning doesn't last 15 minutes or six batters or 20 pitches; it lasts three outs. Give one away and you're making everything harder for yourself."

  1. the Wolves are not on local tv tonight. But...

    Jon Krawczynski ‏@APkrawczynski
Shved is out tonight with that ankle injury. Cunningham is questionable because he's sick

    .

  2. Heh, Strat and I were together in the same barbershop yesterday and didn't even know it. Apparently he figured it out after I left. You citizens who have daughters watch out because he has a son who's gonna be breaking some hearts.

  3. is anyone watching this high school game on FSN? they are playing with some wicked winds!

    1. I was watching some Season 3 NewsRadio today and there is an episode where Jimmy James (the great Stephen Root) has a heart attack and Bill McNeil (Phil Hartman) plays 'Slow Ride'

          1. I don't disagree. I thought he was the best part of News Radio (yeah, even above Hartman... but Root's character had more surprise written into him.). I just mean the juxtapositioning seems odd. If he'd have said "the under-appreciated Stephen Root" I wouldn't have said anything.

              1. NBC may be terrible, but they leave a lot of quality shows on the air when other channels (looking at you ABC) would cancel

                  1. I think if Firefly was on today, it would have had a shot to make it past 10 episodes (or whatever the final count was). FOX has kept the low rated but fan favorite Fringe on for 5 seasons.

    1. And I read all of the comments. There was a nice little BS nugget in there.

For that article at least influence should have been strictly defined on other brewsters IMHO.

      1. another comment there leads to this page.

Inky Beer is the brainchild (what a gross term) of Dr. B (right) and Kim Collins (left). We love to travel the world, attend festivals, meet new and interesting people, share art we find cool and inspiring, and most importantly, brew and drink beer. Inky Beer will be a way to bring all of our loves together and share with you our adventures along the way.

of course, on the "About" page, the authors depict themselves drinking shite, so maybe their sense of art is similarly deficient. I will leave that determination to others.
