An assistant manager had the decency to approach a couple of us yesterday and admit that the general manager's tactic at this point is to do absolutely no promotions from within. I'd sort of gotten the hint, but it's clear now. This interview today means essentially nothing.

After three consecutive seasons out of the playoffs (in which they underperformed their Pythag by a combined 21 games!), the Minnesota Empire Builders were back in in 1978 and won in the bottom of the ninth of game 7 of the League Championship Series last night to advance to the World Series. Bert threw a 142-pitch complete game in game seven, and the winning run was scored with two outs in the bottom of the ninth (a bases loaded walk to Richie Hebner).
My top two second basemen (Davey Lopes and Mitsui Motoi) are both injured for the World Series against the Denver Rams who will be led by ace Steve Carlton.
What was the final score of Game 7?
Bert's 142-pitch CG in a game 7 has to get him into the HOF earlier, right?
Who do you think he is, Jack Morris?
No, Morris is no longer a Twins announcer (he just signed with the Blue Jays' radio & TV), so that would be completely off.
So it has been a productive offseason.
I was thrilled when I heard this. Absolutely thrilled.
Can he bring Dazzle with him?
"Get off My Lawn, eh?"
Final score was 4-3. I'll try to find the boxscore.
He pitched to the score!!!!!11!11O!
Here's the boxscore. I would like to state that there is no way my managerial profile could possibly encourage Chris Arnold to do what he did in the ninth inning.
Bert throws 142 pitches on the 19th and today (the 21st) he's listed as "Rested". Looks like he had a slightly rougher start to his career, but seems ready to pitch 270+ innings through 1982.
I'm thinking (hoping) that Rogers will start game 1 with Bert getting game 2. I yanked John Denny from the rotation in favor of Phil Niekro for game 3.
All you can do is make the best of the situation. Go in and try to kill it. Really, you have nothing to lose at that point.
If it doesn't work out, maybe I buy you a beer this weekend. I will be in Phoenix but I don't know what my schedule looks like.
Good luck on your interview anyways, Spooky!
Thanks, although I'm now more excited about the beer than the interview.
You get beer for the interview? That'd be sweet.Holy crap, I wasn't following the conversation right at all.
Be careful of thinking about beer during the interview:

I work both Saturday and Sunday, but Saturday's just a morning meeting that ends around 10:30. I think I close Sunday. If Saturday works for you, it sure works for me.
I will let you know. I will be helping my parents with things. I don't know if that is an all weekend commitment or not.
Well, if nothing else, it can be practice (the interview, that is).
not to trend close to the forbidden zone, but I find it odd that both my State Senator and House rep are not on Twitter and only my House rep is on the Book of Face.
They got e-mail links at the legislature's web site.
(When was that updated? How long since I've been there?)
Funny. I was just there yesterday to get my name off a Representative's mailing list. Rec'd his legislative update e-mail and thought, "I don't recognize this guy. *takes closer look* Rep. X from 10B? Huh. I don't live in 10B...do I?"
reapportionment/redistricting can do that to a Citizen.
I just emailed my state senator yesterday. Once they start discussing laws that affect my beer purchasing, I let them know what I think.
Whatsthisnow?
There is a bill to allow Sunday liquor sales.
Woo-Hoo! Let's go get loaded after church!!!
I assume the people against this are one subset of liquor stores and the WCTU.
I don't know about you, but they serve wine to me during church.
Just keep it rollin'!!!
They pour the chalices full at my parish. I once had a .04 blood Jesus content.
We usually sit up front, so we gotta sip. Don't want to be accused of Bogartin' it for the rest of the faithful.
No need to worry; loaves and fishes dude. Loaves and fishes.
If I had you there to represent me to the rest of the congregation, using that defense, maybe I would.
But I'm not as gifted with speaking and persuasion as you lawyer-folk, and I prefer not to rock the boat until the bottle-shop opens.
remember the time before the Vikings signed Brett Favre, John David Booty was going to be the franchise QB? Well, he is now trying for a job with Arizona (sort of)
Looks like the Twins Links on the homepage could use some updating (the Geek and Seth still to their old sites rather than Twins Daily, for example). I admit that I rarely go reading any other sites for Twins news, so I don't have any to suggest.
Looks like we'll be making the run to Bloomington/Normal tomorrow for a friend's father's funeral.
I don't want this to head in the direction of the Forbidden Zone, but is anyone else watching the Netflix reboot of House of Cards? I've watched through Chapter Four and am thoroughly hooked.
Haven't seen it yet, but I'm a fan of both the genre and Spacey/Wright so I'll definitely check it out.
Yes, and yes.
Rather than watching the Super Bowl I spent all of my Sunday night burning though House of Cards. Just finished up. It is well worth any citizens time.
Extremely good call, Buffalo. I'm trying to hold myself to one episode per night, but the only way that's working is to make it a reward.
You have greater restraint than many of the characters on the show.
Ian O'Connor from the 4ltr-NY:
World's most pompous gym teacher?
Anthony Swarzak fractures ribs in “non-baseball activity”
Alright, which one of you guys was it? Will?
UPDATE: General manager Terry Ryan revealed that Swarzak suffered the injury “playing around and wrestling” while in town for Twins Fest last week.
That's code for freaky sex stuff, right?
And he'll be suffering from "flu-like symptoms" tomorrow, too
Exactly!
I was working off that update. I assumed that a WGOM'er gave him a German Suplex, or something.

I laughed.
(obligatory Tommy John joke)
I think he pulled something.

As it is, if I'm buying orange juice, it's the frozen variety based completely on price. This is kind of cool though...I think.
mmm, fresssssshhhhhhh.
Unless one only drinks fresh-squeezed, no orange juice any of us consume is likely to actually be fresh.
and unless you have an orange tree in your backyard, the oranges you buy at the store were stored at some climate controlled warehouse for up to 3 months.
And we all know who has an orange tree in his backyard.
Mr. Tropicana?
Hey, there!
I dont buy it often, but Simply Orange with Mango is awesome.
USA vs. Honduras is on in 10 minutes.
LIneup:
Howard ©;
Chandler, Gonzalez, Cameron, F. Johnson;
Williams, Jones, Bradley,
E. Johnson; Dempsey, Altidore
Looks like the semi-colons indicate a 4-4-2, but unless EJ is playing a midfield roll it's more a of a 4-3-3
Sure wish there was an easy way to follow along from work, but these USMNT road qualifiers are quite tricky.
You're not really missing much yet.
This might be somewhat useful - a minute-by-minute from the Guardian. It's better than nothing.
Obliged.
DEUCE!!!
I dont get beINtv (or whatever its called)
CLINT!
What a nice finish, even better ball from Jones. It's nice to see the lads out in front.
Jones is usually so turnover prone, that it's nice for him to create a goal.
Never mind
At least the Honduran had the courtesy to do something awesome with his goal.
Well shit.
I needed an excuse to try a table here in WGOM.
Here's the list of top Twins players by number of autographed cards I have of them:
I have autograph cards of 117 different Twins. Got my first Garza AU coming in the mail; still need my first Oliva, Puckett (yeah right), Mauer (Joe; I have 2 Jakes), Morneau, among others.
It could be so much worse, Twins fans.
And this is why you get scored on the dismount. What a nice lasting impression to leave at the close of his career.
National signing day. NDSU gets only two from ND, one of them being the nephew of one my best friends.
CC to sean: i think the youtube plug in is acting up.
In what way?
in the way that i mention it and then everything runs fine. heh, dunno. on multiple embeds the post had the requisite space reserved for the video, but it was all blank. as mentioned though, seems to be fine now. um, good job!
I think the problem was with youtube. See my comments in the bball gamelog.
All is now good.
Or it might have been with Norton, I guess.
