Rochester lost to Norfolk 5-3 yesterday. I couldn't find out much about the game, but apparently Oswaldo Arcia and Clete Thomas each homered. Joe Mauer caught, but I don't know how he did.
From LEN3:
Mike Pelfrey threw five innings in Sarasota for Class AAA Rochester. He gave up five runs on seven hits and no walks, three strikeouts and two home runs. Joe Mauer caught him and was 1-for-2. Mauer is trying to get familiar with the new members of the rotation before the e regular season starts.
From PiPress. Not sure who to believe about Pelfrey:
Twins right-hander Mike Pelfrey made his next-to-last start of the spring Thursday in Sarasota. Pitching for Triple-A Rochester, with Joe Mauer behind the plate, Pelfrey went five innings and allowed
three runs
on seven hits, including two home runs. He struck out three and walked none while throwing 72 pitches.
Thanks for the updates. I can usually find stuff on the games at the Red Wings' website, but their link to yesterday's game result doesn't work.
hey Doc, just saw that UP abandoned some North Milpitas industrial lead tracks so that the VTA (Vasona Transit Authority?) could work on high-speed rail there
HS rail, or BART? I see elsewhere that UP abandoned some Milpitas track for likely BART usage.
I'm getting it second hand. I'm betting it ties into BART, so a BART extension makes sense. Unless it's the north end of a high-speed line that will make connections to BART? Who knows.
went to The Sample Room last night in Minneapolis. The pig confit is to die for. Nice to go to a place that isn't expensive, has high quality food, and fills you up without gorging you
I was there a couple years ago and definitely enjoyed it, though I'm rather more on the vegetarian end of the spectrum. There's a nice atmosphere there too.
Tomorrow night I'm going to Victor's 1959 Cafe; I've been waiting for a while to check it out.
hmm, a good 75% of the menu seemed vegetarian to me.
Victor's is amazing, but I've never been there for a meal other than brunch. Budget your time because you will likely have a decent wait before getting a table.
Made the reservation a week ago! I understand that it's tiny.
Love Victor's. If you decide to go off the vegetarian wagon for a night, consider the ropa vieja. I didn't think I'd like plantains, but the sweetness combined with the spicy meat is incredible. Also, tiny may be a bit of an understatement. I've heard that Tony O. dines there on a semi-regular basis, too.
The Twins trimmed their camp roster some more by optioning outfielder Joe Benson and lefthander Pedro Hernandez to Class AAA Rochester and reassigning righthander Luis Perdomo to the minor league camp.
I think this means Hicks makes the team, and I can't imagine they would bring him up unless they planned to start him.
We had a limited discussion about The Roots here a few weeks back. My experience of this is what first led me to this. Sad to lose his voice.
Only read Things Fall Apart and it didn't resonate all that well with me.
That's all I've read, too, back in college. I think I'll seek out some of his essays now, though.
I'd read that and an essay or two. If I remember correctly, my general takeaway was that it seemed like he was giving voice to stuff that should probably be said, but that I was never quite convinced.
I believe I've also read No Longer at Ease, that and TFA were texts for a non-Western-civ history course in college.
Hey fellow gaming nerds, this is kind of exciting:

Another interesting moment came in February 1944, when Churchill mistakenly had the songwriter Irving Berlin to dinner, believing he had invited the philosopher and diplomat Isaiah Berlin. He kept pestering poor Irving with questions about his thinking about when the war might end.
Oh, to be inside Berlin's head during that meal.
FP wants me to sign up for something to see that.
I hadn't realized they'd extended the pay wall that far (I'm an FP subscriber). You got the meat of the Berlin thing in the blockquote; the only other interesting tidbit was that Berlin told Churchill he thought FDR would run for and win a fourth term.
I'd take that one all day long and twice on Sundays.
I'd be okay with this.
Though I'm not sure how I'd feel about paying him whatever silly amount his FA contract will be worth.
Stribbies say they'd have to throw in CC as a sweetener.

Click on the embed code in Twitter and then just copy the whole link in. (Look for the ... and then follow embed.)
the Twins could use that guy who homers against the Yanquis too.
With all the Yankees' injury issues, I was thinking this could be the year that the Twins win the season series against them. Then I thought about our starting rotation and did an epic facepalm.
Bizarro baseball today. Yankees take a 2-0 lead on a sac fly and an infield out. Twins tie it on back-to-back bombs by Morneau and Doumit. Twins add another to make it 3-2.
And it looks like Tyler Robertson wants out.
he has had a terrible spring
More Bizarro baseball. A 9-7 game with the Yankees that takes 2:40 to play.

INteresting. Thanks for the heads up.
(edit: looks like "VTA" is the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority)

So, yeah, I might have noticed this before three years elapsed.

Yes it seems.

Worked fine for me, but JS is disabled by default for most sites.
That's how I roll, too.
I can see FP stuff fine when it comes from a Book of Face link. This link, however, took me to a sign-in page.
apparently the story is told by Isaiah Berlin here. I haven't been able to get it to play here at work yet.
Morneau and Doumit just went back-to-back off Ivan Nova.
Morneau for Cano, make it happen!
