Baseball's back! Again!
Did you miss it? I'll bet you did.
Worley takes on Jake Peavey today. The Vanimal has been pretty dreadful so far, but that .455 BABIP will probably come down at some point. Even if it doesn't, he's only affecting one game out of five. The guy we traded him for isn't doing a lot better, and he's in every game.
I'm predicting a 13-0 away team victory.

I'll be surprised if there's anyone in the stands, because EVERYONE
AND THEIR MOTHERATTORNEYENTOURAGEEVERYONE IS AT ST. PETERS, MO MENARDS GRAND OPENING!!!1!!11!NU had a Menards opening a few days before Easter. Brad Radke was there. I was not notified until afterwards.
aw man, I should have gone.
that Menards is huge
I might have driven down for Easter a day early.
Opening Day, Mark II!
No Dick. That means I can swear!
HE'S A MACHINE!
Joe Mauer gets a hit
ho hum
I don't feel as if Dozier is the best choice for leadoff.
Sadly, better than Hicks.
Can't argue there.
the great Howard David on lead vocals for FOX. Loved it when he called that poor relay throw 'incomplete'.
I am less than impressed with Worley.
coming into the game, his WHIP was 2.417
Early returns do have me happy the he wasn't the main prize of the trade. I hope he pulls a Doumit and turns it around.
meatball, crushed.
two strikeout in an inning!
Strikeouts! Two of them in a single inning!
I should keep bad-mouthing the guy.
ump has a HUGE strikezone
Huge is an understatement.
Jeebus, Plouffe. I think someone pranked him by nailing the bat to his shoulder. I also doubt the legitimacy of strike three to Arcia.
Keys to the game: play good.
and it's corollary: don't play badly
That's why Bert gets paid for this stuff.
Rough game for the Tigs so far.
I see last night they brought in O. Dotel and he gave up 5 runs.
boo hoo.
So, Joe is 10 for his last 12 with a HR and two doubles?? I think the real key for this game is getting him as many AB as we can.
6 singles, 3 doubles, HR
*looks for third double; fails*
Rounds first...
*looks for third; double fails*
[the power of punctuation!]
Peavy decides that he shouldn't get a second AB.
yay!
All I ask when I get the other national game is for it to be competitive. 9-0 Angels. Okay then.
On the positive side, the non-competitive team is the Tigers.
maybe the Halos will tack on 9 more runs, then FOX is forced to switch to a more competitive game.
And risk complaints from Scioscia fans?
😉
Let's interrupt this baseball game for a Neil Diamond song during a break in a different city!
Maybe I'm a jackass, but this sucks.
Then I think we're all jack asses.
it's not you.
I think I can speak for all of us:
"TODAY, WE ARE ALL
BOSTONANNOYED."I must be a jackass too.
Where's my damn baseball?
I dunno. If they were to replace the 7th-inning jingoism with Sweet Caroline, I'd be ok with that.
The
terroristsBostonians have already won.I'll agree with you there, at least. I'm more mad that they left a game in progress to show us turds.
I don't really care what they sing during the seventh-inning stretch, but it annoys me when I'm subjected to what is being sung during another game's seventh-inning stretch (and interrupting the actual game I wanted to watch).
The terribleness of the singing was the icing on my crabby cake, though.
I disagree. The 7th inning stretch is for "Take Me Out to the Ball Game".
Right. How dare FOX show Neil Diamond singing Sweet Caroline at the Red Sox game? These Bostonians seem to think of this awful song as an anthem of sorts, and that FOX would subject us to this sure is dumb! Yeah, there was a bombing at their marathon, and this heartless, heinous attack could just as easily have happened in any other city (Mpls, StL, Sacto, etc...), but don't let that get in the way of my enjoyment of a Brian Dozier at-bat!
Just another example of those ESPN Yankees, amiright boys?
Oh yeah, to be trolled means you've made it, or something. I heard that once.
Egotistical? No, not me. You're all wrong and I'm right, though.
But on a more serious note (and really - when I've devoted the last half hour in the middle of the night to replying to myself on this website, which I'm sure some of you have noted - I surely am someone to be taken seriously), it really sucks when a network broadcasts a performance of an awful song like anyone outside of a city might care a few days after a tragic attack on that city. This all has something to do with an east coast bias, or something. They never show the Twins on their 4ltr or whatever non-flyover conglomerate they are in times of crisis or sadness or anything. Jerks.
Go Twins. Go Dozier. Go one at bat, in one game, of 162 games, in which the team you root for will (may - don't be so negative) finish 20 games under .500. Go misuse of commas.
Hawk Harrelson is the worst. Seriously. I mean that.
I GONE.
cant FOX do a split screen of Neil Diamond and they game they are covering?
When the game's on, the only diamond I want to see is the baseball diamond. Or Scott Diamond.
I hate to make any light of a terrible situation, but the Red Sox are going to get annoying extremely fast. To hell with Sweet effing Caroline.
This is insufferable. Stupid remote doesn't work anymore. Probably atrophy from only watching Qubo on this TV.
My receiver was shut off as soon as I realized it wasn't a brief cut away, so I haven't heard any of it. I don't think I should be so upset, but that was the most annoying thing that could happen to me today and in no way honors anyone.
It honors Neil, fwiw
Touche
1. I don't get it.
2. We're calling him "Stategery" now.
I'm not with AMR
i have few words for what i'm seeing right now. they couldn't find a track without vocals?
also, they couldn't give him an earpiece or something so he's not trying to sing along to a song that's being played from thousand of feet away?
They did, on the back side of the 7", but didn't have a way to play it.
"Recorded several years ago"? I have a different definition.
Heh, I thought the same thing at the "recorded several years ago" line. Several decades, more like.
wow, Mr. Backwards K
What would Peavy's look like?

so there was an 8-4 putout while Neil was singing and the only replay FOX showed was from a camera stationed at Wrigley Field
Bucknor's bored/cold today, wants to get back to hotel room/pool.
This game is gonna ruin Arcia's Major-League future. "In the big-leagues, the strikezones are gigantic!"
Which of those Vs are backwards?
Where did R_R's ascii art go?
Oh I see it now.
Juke and jive, dude, juke and jive
Together, Joe Mauer and Aaron Hicks are batting .238
awful bunt by Florimon
awesome bunt by Dozier
according to Dazzle, Dozier was an excellent bunter in the minors, and wanted to show step up from last year's poor showing
YDNROJM
I love the strike-em-out throw-em-out double play when we're on defense.
probably could have called batters interference on that too since De Aza was standing on home plate when Mauer was throwing.
For some reason, I read 'Butters' instead of 'batters'.
you miss Butera that much
Saf, isn't it?
Nice, Chris.
Well that's better than striking out.
That looks like a CB Bucknor-aided post.
he did have a HR-type trot.
I'm feeling a Hicks HR here.
So close.
a productive hit here would be nice, Base-on.
Ok, a non-out works.
off to shop for a new kitchen table. make something good happen, kids.
I thought Rios had one there.
A MACHINE!!
moar hitz
At least Worley can pitch against AL batters.
twins baseball. 🙁
uuugggggh
coming into the game, Twins starters has 27 k's in 13 games.
If that's not an error, the error stat should be abolished.
Per the box score, it appears the error stat should be abolished.
It's rally time! Grand finale time! Line drive in the alley time!
Or bunts, lots of bunts.
They are in fear of the mighty Oswaldo!
It's probably the right move to use Doumit, but I was hoping Arcia would get to bat.
huh. So Neil Diamond decided to jump on a plane, fly to Boston, then called the Red Sox to ask them if he could sing.
Still, the Sox should have had a karaoke version of the song on hand.
Nothing about that thing is getting any better.
I wonder what the Twins would do if Prince decided to drive down to Target Field and asked to sing on spot.
Asked if he can pitch.
I thought Prince played catcher?
First base currently.
Robin LaRussa here. jeesh
Start up the reliever revolving door.
I know we really don't have another center fielder, but it makes me a little sad that Hicks is going to have to hit here. Maybe Hicks can turn my frown upside down.
He's due!
Okay, Wilkin, make that new baby proud!
2 more walks for Hicks.
swung at ball 3 🙁
He was a pinch hitter, not a pinch walker.
Damn.
No problem. We have the Greatest Dozier of them All up to bat!
Ugh, Twin's baseball.
Well, shoot.
Bases loaded, less than two outs, no runs. Par.
How many years does Adam Dunn have to fight a losing battle against the Mendoza line before he's no longer considered to be "slumping"?
coming into this game, Dunn has played 288 games for the Sox. His slash line is .180/.308/.376/.683 OPS+ 83
$15 mil this year, $15 mil next year
Okay, we've got the best batters up. Let's do it!
Well, his WHIP is already ruined, so my fantasy team doesn't care anymore, so here's hoping for a Crainwreck.
way too many outs in foul territory.
I see we feel similarly about the situation.
The good news is that Chicago won't have any relievers left to pitch tomorrow.
Stinking foul territory catches.
Ugh, Robin Ventura sucks.
also, i'd be a bit more prudent in my bullpen usage when the game's still tied in the 9th.
That sort of thing only ever backfires against Gardy.
For instance, leaving Dunce in to face Konerko with Perkins existing. Let's watch.
OUCH
belch
Duensing -vs- Konerko
this could be dicey for the Twins.
held to a single
Better than I was expecting.
yeah, that situation screamed 'game winning, soul crushing HR'
that ball must have caught an updraft or something because I didnt think Willingham had a chance to catch that one.
Woohoo for free baseball!
Twins have had 3 cancelled ballgames this week, lets make it up by playing extra innings!
Crap, scoring position.
doublmit
Hicks probably bunting here
awful
Well, he held out the bat in a way that would suggest it, anyway.
Hicks probably
buntingfailing hereftfy
Free baseball!
OFFS.
Can't say I was surprised about that.
Hicks should probably see how much it'd take to get those pictures Punto has.
How else do you think he's still in the lineup?
But that was before failing at the holy Twins way ritual.
TWINS BASEBALL!!
Twin's baseball!
twins baseball!
Wheels Doumit!
I love how awkward he looked when he tried to start going again.
"What? I'm not done?!"
what the...
awesome!
Twins baseball redux!
keppinger probably could have stayed on the bag there.
That White Sox fan must be thrilled he knows how to pronounce "Mauer" properly with how much he's shouting it.
yeah, i would've turned down the on-field mic a couple of innings ago. i'm looking at tickets for tomorrow's game with an eye on getting as close to the field as (cheaply as) possible, so maybe you'll hear me tomorrow. anything in particular i should be yelling out? anyone in particular on field Pete and i should attack?
say something to irk Dick Bremer
'Kevin Slowey rocks'
Robin Ventura during pitching changes, maybe?
Try to start a WGOM chant.
that was a strike all game long.
Maybe he gets overtime pay after 9.
Looking for a dose of Perkocet here.
De Aza put out of his misery.
Huh, Perkins was now born in St. Paul, according to Bert.
I believe that is true, if I'm not mistaken.
At least, per B-Ref anyway.
Huh. Wikipedia lists Stillwater, but baseball-reference.com says that was just for high school.
We're not all awesome enough to have also been born in Stillwater.
b-r has him born in St. Paul
Three wins in a row!
Less painful than table shopping.
puppies!
Weather appropriate
Welcome back, Omar!
Verry nice, Rhu.
fireworks in the correct stadium: priceless
I see today's losing pitcher has a 0.00 ERA on the season. Wheeeee!
Can't pin a run on him, but we can pin the whole loss on him.
Oh, and the winner recorded one out. A great day for Decision stats.
I guess we can give them a pass on today's game, especially considering the strike zone.
After striking out 20 times in his first 10 games, Hicks now has three consecutive games without a K (two starts) and has five walks in those three games.
That would seem to be a very good sign. Once he starts forcing pitchers to give him hittable pitches, it'll only be a matter of time.
Hicks has not struck out in a week!
I didnt think much of the play at the time, but I guess the Mauer 'hit and run' play was a controversy on the Twitter machines
Mike Berardino writes about it
on another note, the PiPress seems to have hit a home run by hiring Berardino. Interesting on Twitter and seems to find interesting angles to write about. Cant remember the last time I clicked on an article written by the beat writers at the Strib.
From that article:
In what fantasy-land is Gardy living? I can remember numerous hit-and-runs with Mauer during his career. I highly doubt that on every single time Mauer swung at a pitch with a player running and less than a 3-2 count, he just happened to swing at the exact pitch the runner was running. Just say you didn't call for it yesterday, Gardy. Don't lie to everyone who has actually watched the Twins play.
We haven't lost in a week! No reason that shouldn't continue! We're still on track for 155-7!
