What a beautiful day. The afternoon was spent changing out mulch around my hops and maintaining the yard. Now it's time for sitting on the deck with a couple of Alaskan Ambers and some grilled chops...
...and hopefully another Twins win.
Kyle Gibson takes on Erik Bedard today. Gibson's had a fairly rough go of it so far. Luckily for him, the 'Stros are (to put it very kindly) a AAA team at this juncture. If he keeps it on the ground and doesn't nibble too much, he should be fine. The Twins batters, on the other hand, might have some trouble with Bedard. He strikes out a lot of folk. It might be a low scoring game...

From Phil Miller's blog:
False hustle ... Just a compiler ... would be sitting against the Yankees ...
I can't think of any others. I seem to notice a name showing up in those leaderboards with some regularity.
dont forgot about selfish by putting family over his teammates
And if you average Mauer's two averages together, you'll get... .323!
Math is amazing!
pregame (or in game) reading: Baseball's Swagger Problem
food for thought
traitor to the pitcher
leadoff triples are super sexy
Show off, he should have stopped at 2nd.
if its good for Mauer, its good for you.
Brian Dozier has 9 home runs. One more obviously puts in double digits. Only 9 times, by 7 players, in Twins history when a 2Bdude (defined as playing at least 50% of games there) has hit 10+ HR. How many can you name?
I've been reasonably pleased with picking up Dozier in the Half-Bakef League.
Hey, 5 out of 7
I got the three most recent ones, which I don't feel too badly about. Of the other four, I've only heard of one of them before.
Never heard of the Rookie of the Year, eh?
Nope, I hadn't. His replacement's name is slightly familiar, but not one I could have come up with on my own.
He was before my time, but I remember his name was brought up a lot when Knobby and Cordova won their ROY trophies.
Oh geez, I feel ancient.
from what I recall, Reese was a third/first baseman
Kyle Gibson is not very efficient with his pitch count
but then again, not many starters on this team are.
That's what we get for not pitching to contact anymore!
So all of that contact by opposing batters is unintentional? They're not very good at striking out, then.
Showoff doubles night.
OOOOOOH so close
blooooooooooooooop!
TWINS BASEBALL!!
oh my goodness. ROFL
TWINS BASEBALL!!!!
Cue Yakety Sax.
Clete just earned himself some more playing time, IMO.
Since, you know, they have so many other center fielders sitting on the bench waiting to play.
so, that counts as a steal of home. makes sense
Astros Clown Show.gif
Oof.
How long before Gibson gets the Scott Baker treatment?
as long as he keeps the ball down in the zone, the broadcasters will be happy
I'm hoping he pulls a Garza and has a much better second season in the bigs.
And if he does I'm hoping he doesn't get traded for the 2015 version of Delmon Young.
Do you remember Garza's first major league debut (as Bert would say)?
Joe called a bad game.
I do recall that Garza spit so much he left a moat around the mound.
Yes! I was at that game and remember looking forward to watching Garza pitch.
Classy crowd, they gave him a big hand when he left the game.
Hey, gents!
I got myself a new phone today, went for an 8 mile run, and am now settling down to a dinner of Indian food with Skinny Cow for dessert. Overall, not a bad day.
The Girl is back home today, so I'm making Indian food for dinner (chana dal over rice).
Your Indian food is probably better than mine. Mine was just Amy's, but it was still delicious.
I'm familiar with the brand, but never purchased.
Amy's Tom Kha Phak, on the other hand, I've had. It is pretty darned good for a canned soup.
as for packaged Indian, I'm kind of partial to Kitchens of India products.
Huh. I'll keep my eye out for that. I used to eat a lot of Amy's. I'd be the vegetarian stuff, then grill up a piece of chicken on the Forman and cut it up and mix it all together. I like the vegetable korma a lot. It's good stuff.
vegetarian with chicken!
I love the "vegetarian" restaurants that ask "what kind meat you want with that?"
I have never tried Indian food. There is a place in North Mankato that I hear is pretty good. Just never been curious enough to try it.
A billion
ChineseIndians can't be wrong.Whoa. It is the greatest of all foods. Nay - the greatest of all things.
Don't listen to these guys. There's plenty Indian food that's crap. Also, that particular restaurant is just down the street from me and displaced one of the two best Mexican restaurants I've ever eaten at (not counting Jaleo). But I suppose it really just filled the location vacated by the Mexican place, which may or may not have become the new Mexican place over on Madison drive. I digress... the point is, I've had Indian food I don't love, and some that's been good enough, so if you're interested in trying it out some time, drop me a line and I'll make the half-mile trip over and meet you.
What phone did you go with? My brother's GF has a Droid Razr M which has caught my eye while they're visiting.
A pitchers' duel, I see.
Classically on point prognostication.
In the best half-bakef tradition.
last three hits: up the middle, up the middle, up the middle
OMG. Stop it with the seeing eye stuff.
Stupid Hoes.
somehow, this is all Joe Mauer's fault.
I, for one, blame Casilla.
Fact: Morneau and Dozier have the same number of HRs this season.
Is it just me, or has Morny kind of cranked it up in the last week or so?
last two weeks? No, just since the trading deadline was over
I guess it is just me, because his numbers actually kind of suck.
On the Grillin my stomache: Omaha steak, crescents, green beans almondine, baby spuds, and a Mike's LiteOn the grill now: Chili brats and hamburgers from Greg's Meats
I grilled a couple sirloins, boiled some potatoes and cut up a salad.
as mentioned above, chana dal and jasmine rice. I bought a case of Blue Moon recently at Costco because they were giving away a "free" "Keep Tahoe Blue" pint glass with the purchase. Plus, it is pretty palatable stuff, for Coors. So I'm about to go pour one.
Day three and this &#%@ing tooth is still barking. Advil knocked it down but not out, at the price of some pretty bad gut rot, so I switched back to Tylenol. Penicillin not yet doing its job with the infection. I'm about ready to get a figure skate and do a frigging Castaway on the damn thing.
Took a couple big shots of Penicillin to the posterior to knock mine down, if I remember right. Only pain I had was from the swelling; the tooth was dead already in my case.
I don't think that was Bedard's fault (as much as Bert is blaming him) because (as Smalley noted) he had to slow down waiting for the feed.
Has anybody else notice that Clete Thomas kinda sucks?
but, he gets after it pretty good.
He plays the game right, just not very well.
All part of the plan to win a pennant in Rochester.
I'm glad we have our priorities straight.
that would have been a fantastic double play.
still, a pretty good play by Dozier
Great play by Dozier.
I'm with Dick, I'd like to see Smurfsequel get a Win tonight.
We're TOTALLY going to score this inning.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan...
wait, what? I missed Provus(?) talking about a steal of home. Who is he talking about and when?
link to the link to the gif
need a rally inning
It's a little dusty, but what the heck.
I like how Roy Smalley actually gets Bert to say something about pitching strategy
like right there, talking about Plouffe sitting on breaking ball, then Bert says that Bedard should throw a hard breaker, and that's exactly what happens.
I like Arcia more when he is swinging at everything instead of watching two strikes go by.
to be fair, Bedard threw him a nasty curve/slurve/junkball

SEND HIM!!!
'productive out'
*drink*
Trader Clete stops at 2nd like a good team player should, setting up the all-important sac bunt.
Double Dozed!
Bull Dozier!

anything in the gap or over the fence will do
lob wedge to CF works
Well, at least the umps called the infield fly rule.
I am exhausted after watching Harrell pitch.
Of course, I go off to start dinner and miss the comeback rally.
This game is in the bag.
PerK
puppies!
every series should be against the Astros.
Stros and Pale Hose
thats a series win!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Like a cat with a mouse, the Twins once again toyed with the Astros, giving them the illusion that they might escape with a victory before finally moving in for the kill. We're still on track for 102-60!
