Today's the birthday of the girl that messed me up more than any other. I hope she's grown up since then.

In case you missed it:
WGOM Fantasy Premier League is back. GO HERE AND ENTER THIS AS THE LEAGUE ID 1680942-370510.
Last year was just me and DPWY, so I'd like more participants this year if anyone is interested. It almost feels cheap to put my win on the Achievements page. Almost
I don't know a damn thing about soccer players over there or anywhere, but I'm in to make your achievement this year feel a little less hollow.
I'll give it a go. I won't be able to sign up until tonight, though.
Prescient.
Not to be forbidden zoney, just that right now it's an obvious joke.
Someone exposed me to that somewhere along the line, but I'd totally forgotten about it.
Oh crap, it's also my dad's birthday and I did as much for him as I did in that Rome game. Less, actually.
I always forget his birthday because it's just three days after my anniversary.
this is why God invented calendar apps for cellphones.
I don't have a cellphone with appability.
or Google account calendar app??? π
Ah, crap. Yesterday was my parents anniversary. Thanks for reminding me.
Text conversation with my mom:
"Happy Anniversary that I totally didn't forget about!"
"Thank you! Dad golfed league and i went out with some teacher friends"
"True love"
dido on the notice thanks. I have a week lead time now.
I have 128 days' lead time. The Milkmaid and I often forget until the day of, since it's right before Christmas and that's what's on everyone's mind. This is the ten year, though, so we should probably make some better-than-average effort.
I'd silently predicted you as a co-winner of Rome, so I shan't be a betting man any time soon...
it is against the rules to announce a spookying before the fact.
Yeah, I'm really ticked because I thought I was very well positioned and then completely flaked.
Ten years ago today, my nephew was born, ten hours after his cousin (who was born ten years ago yesterday). When I told someone at work that morning that I had two nephews born ten hours apart, she exclaimed, "That poor woman!" Ha.
I long for the days when the Vikings were owned by someone less slippery than the Wilfs. Red, come back! All is forgiven! Purple Prahhhhhhhhhde!
I long for the days when the Vikings were a legitimate candidate to move to LA. Ah well, its not like I live there any more.
He's not the owner we need, he's the owner we deserve.
I think he's actually a pretty great owner. That is to say nothing of him as a person.
He's the Randy Moss of owners.
He bought the team primarily to use as a springboard to a huge land development deal in Blaine. Nothing wrong with that per se, but he made some major miscalculations, like assuming the legislature and public would be okay with financing not only a new stadium there but also all the infrastructure for the associated land development - roads, water, sewer, electricity, etc.
So he's even more of a grifter than Red.
That's a judgement call. His other major miscalculation, though, was assuming that the legislature would give a Vikings stadium priority over a new Twins stadium and a new Gopher football stadium.
At least he didn't have to clean up the superfund site in Arden Hills. That would have been a Geiger Don't.

So much this.
To be more accurate: Multiple-purples pride.
I haven't followed what's going on, but in my daydreaming I hope its something that can scratch the stadium deal.
My guess is that the NFL would step in to save the deal even if the Wilfs go down in flames.
somewhat apropos of the Vikings thread, some stats this morning in the Sac Bee on high school sports participation in Cali. Over 102,000 football players statewide, including 13,700+ in the Sacjoaquin region.
by way of comparison, the next most populous h.s. sport in the state is soccer, with 55,000 boys and 44,000 girls participating. Yea, Cali is big.
Part of that is a numbers game. It takes a lot of people to field a football team.
My son's favorite sport is basketball. The top 7 get playing time. So, he will probably have to be top 4 in his class to play in his senior year. That is out of 250 boys.
I should also mention that he has the genes passed on to him by his mother and me. There isn't a good chance he ever plays basketball in high school.
19 - Twins: Here's a complete list of players in yesterday's lineup that had a batting average higher than .265: Joe Mauer.
only 19th?
Patience, Grasshopper. Patience.
Saved by the starting pitching.
Being in the AL gives the Twins a .040 edge in winning percentage over teams from the NL, according to their methodology. So the Twins manage to be 12th in the AL, but 19th in MLB.
The AL went .522 against the NL this year, so it's not impossible that there is a 40-point league adjustment factor, but I'd guess there's not enough regression to the mean in that adjustment. Although if you half that to a 20-point league adjustment factor, the Twins only fall to 21st. Maybe the NL cellar is that deep.
Science is cool. Even cooler when it involves math. Even cooler when it is the math of poop.

regular numbers.
Stop it. You are making me feel flush.
Finally.
This just in: I'm told Nikola Pekovic and Wolves have agreed to five-year deal worth $60 million— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) August 14, 2013
Sources with knowledge of deal say contract will also include up to $8 million in additional incentive-related bonuses for Pekovic— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) August 14, 2013
Wow.
Oh, wow. Pleasant surprise.
Not that much of a surprise. He was a restricted free agent (so the Wolves could match any offer) and there weren't a lot of teams with cap space to do a deal anywhere close to this one. So, he got paid and he'll be with the Wolves for a while and I like that there are incentive clauses. But, he was always going to be back in a Wolves uniform.
Time to buy a Pek shirt.
Correct me if I am wrong but each team only gets one five year contract per CBA, correct? So this means no 5 year for Rubio or 5 year for Love when he opts out in 2015. That seems like a legitimate question about this contract, right?
You are wrong. Each team gets one 5 year rookie extension, but can offers many 5 year contracts as they feel inclined to do. So, Ricky and Kevin's five year seals are safe..... Until Flip gives Williams a 5 year rookie contract extension.
Ah. Well, pleasant surprise to someone who hasn't paid nearly enough attention in the offseason.
Finally, indeed. I'm extremely excited for this upcoming season.
Got a little toasted and talked with Corey Hart at Chili's a bit tonight. He now knows me, at least, as "one of the video game guys."
Was he wearing sunglasses?
It's simply impossible to resist, right? I fought the urge the entire time I was talking to him.
So, Liriano tossed another complete game tonight and took a shutout into the 9th, but gave up a run and got a 5-1 win on four hits over the Cards. Going into the game he was 12-5, sporting a 2.83 ERA (125 ERA+), 1.257 WHIP, 2.3 WAR and 22 RAR. Oh, and 107 strikeouts. And he missed all of April and a part of May. Meanwhile, Eduardo Escobar has played in 55 games for the Twins with a .214/.268/.328/.596 slash line, and Pedro Hernandez has been a work in progress in Rochester since June.
You two (bS below) are just gluttons for punishment, aren't you? We've always known that F-Bomb had this type of talent, but if a guy can't tap it on a consistent basis, how can you trust him with the ball every fifth start?
especially when you have proven starters like Correia, Pelfrey, De Vries, Worley, Diamond, Deduno, Hendriks - fill-ins in Harden and Blackburn along with Gibson and May waiting in the wings??!
I miss Frank. π
So, even trade.
Sarcasm becomes you.
My wife doesn't think so.
This is what wives do.
In the NL in 114 innings. The sample size is growing, but it's still the NL.

Wow, over seven years since Dr. Fun hung it up?
Did not know that existed.

DSPAN with the catch
I'm sure Clete would've done the same thing in DSPAN's position.
