Since I probably won't have time to do transactions posts this week, I'll note here that the Twins have re-signed James Beresford, Doug Bernier, Jermaine Mitchell, Lester Oliveros, and Virgil Vasquez to minor league contracts.
Add another starter to the #MNTwins radar: Korea righty Suk-Min Yoon. MN will scout his upcoming showcase. No posting fee in play to sign.— Darren Wolfson (@DarrenWolfson) October 16, 2013
With a shoulder injury Yoon lost about 2 mph on his fastball, and converted to relief during 2013 season.
Sounds like he'll get a "huge" contract.
Last night I had a CoC figured out honoring Sour Cream's birthday but fell asleep without even trying (the previous two nights, I did overnights at work, and needed to recover).
Sour Cream has become a very happy, optimistic girl - not the harsher girl I thought she'd be when she was a snippy toddler. She makes me laugh every day and I'm emboldened by her good heart. Alright, off to check the mail with her. They had a scheduled day off today, which is kind of fun.
Nice job by Olbermann of highlighting advance scout Mel Didier's contribution to Gibson-Eck moment 25 years ago. Scouts SHOULD be in HOF.
I'm saying no scouts in until we start inducting trainers and bullpen coaches.
I'll second that. Scouts are important to an organization, but they certainly aren't famous and I don't think we have any idea which scouts to induct.
First read that as
"which scouts to indict."
So, there was some chatter here last night about the US soccer team's last-second heroics in Panama that let Mexico off the hook and killed Panama's World Cup dreams. First off, I have to say that I'm happy the US won. I don't like taking the foot off the gas. 7-1-2 is a damn good Hex finish. Second, Mexican fans have to be beside themselves that their team couldn't do it themselves and had to rely on the US to seal the deal. Here is a translation I've seen of the Mexican announcer's reaction to Zusi's goal which put Mexico back into 4th place (I can't verify it, but I've seen a similar translation of the same words elsewhere):
“GOOOOAAAAAAL The US of A PUTS us in the playoffs!!!!!” USA!
“It is because of the USA that we are being placed in the playoff …BECAUSE OF THEM , NOT DUE TO YOU..NOT ANY OF YOU in the green shirts ….IT WAS THEM!!.NOT YOU!..THEY DID IT!!!!!NOT YOU! remember this forever….. KEEP THIS CLEARLY IN MIND FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES! You do NOTHING for the shirt, you do NOT put the effort, you have NOTplaced us in the playoffs , you HAVE NOT placed us in the WORLD CUP ..YOU WOULD NOT HAVE KEPT US ALIVE….IT WAS ESTADOS UNIDOS, NOT YOU.! .NOT YOU AND YOUR ARROGANCE/CONCEIT…..NOT YOU AND YOUR INFAMY….NOT YOU AND YOUR MORONS/PUNKS….
….
“IT IS A FAILURE…..and UNDESERVED to go through to the playoff WE HAD NO ARGUMENTS to earn the playoffs, THE USA, WITH SUBS , WITH MANY SUBS as the visiting team shows us once again what the USA is all about ….how to play the game with dignity, how to approach the sport..MExico is a horror, just terrible….A FAILURE….
……
THE USA HAS SURPASSED US ..They are better than Mexico in SOCCER ….THEY EVEN HAVE THE LUXURY OF PLAYING THEIR SUBS and KEEPING US LIVE…. I hope our coach wears the pants and resigns..He has failed as coach….”
That is a pretty epic backing-into-the-playoffs rant.
Incredible. If we've pulled ahead in soccer, then surely we're way behind with our sunny, homerish announcing across the major sports.
That is unbelievably fantastic.
WE HAD NO ARGUMENTS to earn the playoffs,
Well, except that Mexico beat Panama four days ago.
A triumph is sports commentary. Can't wait to watch Mexico lose to New Zealand next month.
yep, get the coach fired, and wanted to get out of Orlando as fast as you can, but still want your number retired.
One of my best friends at work, and one of the best people I've met anywhere, just suffered a brain aneurysm while traveling for work in Europe. I'm really broken up about this. I just don't know what to think.
Sorry to hear that, meat.

Oh man, I'm really sorry to hear that, meat. You may recall that one of my very best friends died last fall from a brain aneurysm. It's a hard thing to deal with, there's no rhyme nor reason to it. Life is just a lot more random that we care to acknowledge. I hope they're able to do something for your friend.
He is in our prayers.
Sorry to hear that, meat, best wishes.
Dido. Life is short, and precious.
I'll paraphrase something a wise man once said to me, "that's the shits."
The shutdown is over. Was that really only sixteen days? Huh.
Depending on who's counting, that's two or three days longer than the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Okay, I know this might be treading too heavily but...
Whenever you get the chance to shutdown the US Government and take the world economy to the brink of ruin for no real reason, to gain absolutely nothing, and without an exit strategy, you gotta do it.
The best thing is that history could have told them that the public would turn on them. One of their favorite tricks is to do more of what isn't working. Surely, that'll help.

Let's not give TMZ any more traffic than they already get on their own.
Anyone ever been to this site before? Looks like some fun stuff there.
I've been disconnected for a few days and haven't seen any games this week so I wasn't aware Wally Bell had died, and only 48 years old.
That does look cool.
Was wondering why such info was so oddly scattered around the internet.
(Brooks has strikezone, etc.)
For those of you interested in OOTP, there's a link to a sale.
Dwight Howard is a clown show

There will be no more warnings, Twayn.
So, is this a "Spoiler" or an "Actual Spoiler"?? Inquiring minds want to know.
this situation has been hard on everyone.
I just came here to post a similar link. Truly bizarre.
