      1. that is going to be my next DVD purchases.
I own the complete 'Pinky and the Brain' collection

    1. Surely, I know him too. We also got to know the entire classic Hanna-Barbara lineup over at my grandparents' house, though I preferred early Looney Tunes.

  2. Classic NBBW.

Has lots of errands to do - should we have lunch first or wait - let's have it now, we're both hungry, etc.

So we're making lunch, chopping vegetables, lots of stuff on the kitchen counters, etc.

She suddenly feels (and is right) that the fridge has a lot of leftovers that have gone bad, and what was Project Lunch gets converted into Project Must Clean the Refrigerator Now.

Everything in the refrigerator gets pulled out onto the kitchen counters, and only after QC examines it, does it go back into the fridge.

    Classic NBBW.

  3. Sitting outside on the deck on a crisp fall day, brewing my first batch of beer since March. Lord, but I had forgotten how good wort smells.

      1. Irish Red Ale for me tomorrow. First time brewing with iron-heavy well water...shouldn't be a problem, should it?

        1. I'm not sure. I've never had to deal with heavy lead water. However, I do believe in the old adage that if it tastes ok to drink, it'll make beer that tastes fine.

            1. Heh, I was, in fact, making a red ale, and the water did seem rather iron-heavy today*.

              * We have well water, and without a softener, it would be nearly undrinkably iron-heavy. I'll have to see if we're low on softener salt.

      2. Not a brewer, but I've really been enjoying sampling various Oktoberfests. So far I'm most partial to the Summit.

        1. The Sam Adams Oktoberfest was the only thing worth ordering at Chili's a couple of nights ago, and I have to say, I was amazed at how good it is. I never buy Sam from the store, but they've been nailing their seasonals for a while now.

I haven't brewed in several months. It just keeps being "the next thing we can afford," and then the car acts up again.

          1. The Sam Adams was really good, I'll admit. I loves me the sweet malty goodness of a mΓ€rzenbier. I had some Leinie's Oktoberferst on tap when I was in northern Wisconsin a few weeks ago that was excellent.

            1. I'll add a counterpoint. I'm underwhelmed by the Sam Adams (I bought a case at Costco a couple of weeks ago). Admittedly, not my favorite style (wow! did I really say that? a style that I don't love?).

I have a slight preference for this local product.

I had a bottle of this last night from the same brewery. It was...disappointing. Not worthy of a full post, I think. No noticeable banana esters, surprisingly sour. Some fruit (dark cherries, mostly), but almost no sweetness to the malt, no caramel undertones. I was crying in my Buffalo glass (which I'd pulled out special for this beer) for an Aventinus-type experience.

              1. It's not a big style for me, either, and I admittedly have not tried very many to compare.

I had a beer that does not seem to be up on BA.com yet. Huh.

  4. Great win by the Gophers at Northwestern today. Even if Northwestern isn't as good as some thought prior to the BIG season, they've always had a terrible time beating Northwestern. They have a killer schedule this year since they don't play Purdue or Illinois. But at least they don't play Ohio St. either. One more win to be bowl eligible may be tough. Best chances are at home against PSU and at Indiana.

    1. One more win to be bowl eligible

more evidence that there are entirely too many bowl games. where's Bud with contraction when you need him?
