Halloween? The World Series? The Wolves? Which one should we focus on???

Passing across the front page of the 4ltr to get to the Wolves box score reminded me that a Red Sox victory was the worst possible outcome. I didn't click on any of the articles, but the headlines were blaurgh.
Perfect.
the St Louis Cardinals are more of a 'dynasty' in that time than the Sox, who missed the playoffs 3 years in a row before this year.
I'm surprised RI, NH, ME held out.
Not to mention Connecticut.
And the oceans.
I laughed. Thanks.
Ha! Good one.
Yeah, I posted on this back on the Stick. Nutmeggers are split between yanquis and bosox, and H'town pretty much defines the line.
Figured they might be half Yanks fans.
Hey, where's Puerto Rico?
It's in the Caribbean.
I missed the first half of the Wolves game last night, as I was driving home from ND. Apparently, the club that scored 60 points in the first half took the rest of regulation off.
The fourth quarter was extremely painful with the Wolves running what Simmons calls the toilet clogging offense. Plus, they weren't stopping anyone on defense.
Never fear, though, Kevin Love is apparently reverting to pre 2012-13 form and that's a really good thing. Martin was pretty crappy all night but he hit shots late. Pek was good in OT after spending most of the 4th Q right next to Derek Williams (DNP-CD). It's a win in the record book and our best player looked good (ref whining aside).
DNP-CD in the season opener for DW?? Good lord. Does this mean they are about to renew him for a max contract?
I was both blessed and cursed in the CO/XO department...had some outstanding leadership during a couple of different rotations and at least one supremely petty asshole with a humongous case of little man syndrome. Let's hope Shatner and his Nemoy is more of the former.
You can start forwarding Derrick Williams' mail to Rick Adelman's doghouse. When Orlando went small, Adelman went with Kevin Martin at the 3 over the former No. 2 draft pick. Not a good sign.
DNP-CD. The Wolves just announced that they picked up his option for next year and he can't find the court in the season opener. The Caged Lion is going to have a very tough year, methinks.
I like the theory that he is about to be traded and the team trading for him is all like "don't play him because we don't want to risk his health before this deal is finalized."
Our take: The Wolves listened to several offers for the pick, but in the end did the right thing and took Arizona's Williams, the closest thing to a sure thing in this year's Draft. Yes, he is redundant for a team that already has Michael Beasley, but you don't force things with the second pick; you take the best player and worry about the rotation later.
-David Aldridge, June 27, 2011
Some of that appears laughable in hindsight, but I don't remember thinking Thompson (Klay or Tristan), Kawhi Leonard or Brandon Knight were obvious to be picked ahead of Williams.
I do remember that, and so I will amend my comment to:
"But yeah, Kahn and the scouts and analysts were krahp."
Ahh - that's better...unfortunately.
forget about all the political stuff in this PPP poll, buried down at the bottom
Also it's interesting to note 66% of Minnesotans identify themselves as Twins fans compared to just 57% for the Vikings.
I wish the poll would have asked that question about the Wolves and Wild.
In a completely unscientific study, recently I have noticed far more twins gear on display in Minnesota when I visit the motherland. I approve of that shifting landscape.
just remember, baseball is dying because no one watches the World Series.
That poll question and meat's totally legit study warm my heart and strengthen my theory that football (America) is actually dying.
I notice that around here (in the extremely small sample size limited to family, friends, and close associates), there seems to be an attitude of wanting to root for the Twins, even when things are difficult. The Vikings get a much, much shorter leash.
That will likely change after this year, when the Vikings finish out the season 10-6 and win the Super Bowl.
that is the obvious result. Skol!
Well, the players are dying. That's something, right?
I wonder how many listen to the World Series? And I wonder how many listen to pro football?
confounding variable: Joe Buck.
A friend of mine was texting me that Joe Buck was almost rooting openly for the Red Sox. I made note that it was more likely that he was just openly rooting for baseball to be over.
Given Buck's ties to StL, does that make any sense?
If Buck seemed pro-Boston, it's probably over compensation.
Yea, I'm sure that Buck can be bought.
Wait, what?
I think the producers were very Pro Boston, with a billion cutaway shots to the crowd starting in the second inning of Game 1.
Outside of Buck pimping Pedroia's grittiness (every announcer does it. its annoying!), I though he was fair.
I dunno. Cutaway shots to the crowd are pretty stock story-telling. You need more than a feeling π to make the case.
baseball is dying because no one watches the World Series.
Does it count that I watched the replay of the ump calling the Card boyo safe at home?
There's some quality stuff at the bottom. Thanks for sharing.

There are a lot more former Wolves than that who've score 5,000 points in the NBA. π
This year's "trick" thanks to the neighbor's not being home this evening:
You get any takers?
π
try wearing the local ballclub's cap next time.
If the BoSox had to win the Series, at least it wasn't tonight.
Tricks-n-treats has me worn out.
I agree, although for different reasons ---> the rebirth brass band has me worn out.
Rebirth was incredibly fun at the Dakota a few months ago. Kermit Ruffins was a little less fun although that might be because of the smell I noticed coming from the Green Room when Sheenie went to get a picture with him after the show.
Kermit opened last night, and didn't really impress. He does more talking about the old days than playing the horn. I guess the dude has earned it, but it doesn't really make for a great show.
Halloween was rather anticlimactic for us this year. We're semi-empty nesters now with Elder Daughter moved out and working and Younger Daughter, now a senior, busy all week doing tech for the HS musical that opens tomorrow (Shrek). The wife and I carved pumpkins yesterday and I did a second one today since YD hadn't the time. We did decorate, but it was minimalist this year. Five to ten years ago we used to go all out with the decorations and we always had a steady stream of kids at the door, the neighborhood fairly buzzed with activity. Now we get a slow trickle of trick-or-treaters at best, maybe two or three dozen kids over the course of a couple hours. It's become something of a melancholy holiday for us, what with all the ghosts of Halloweens past haunting us and overpowering the spirit of Halloween present.
We had less than half our normal visitors -- some of that was due to the light drizzle, but mostly because we let an amateur hand out the treats and she gave more than one per, so we ran out early and had to shut down.

Not to defend Kahn, but I remember this being kind of the consensus

speaking of football dying, Ponder puts house up for sale.

Now, that is the rare comment worth venturing into the comments section to discover.
You're doing god's work, will. Thanks.
to bad Mr Ponder wasnt a better QB because he seems like a really cool dude to hang out with.
Kevin Love scored his 5000th point last night. Could you name the other 4 Wolves players to have scored 5000+?
