  1. Wolves recap:

Love has definitely returned to the guy we all love. His play through two games has been terrific. He's a top ten player for sure in the league.

Pekovic should be an All-Star. He's a beast. He's easily worth his salary. He's a perfect complement to Love. He's a monster on the pick and roll. Just a monster.

Ricky can't shoot, but man, everything else is off the charts, especially on the defensive end.

Corey Brewer completely shut Kevin Durant down.

That was the type of game that long starved Wolves fans have been waiting for. They blew the Thunder right off the floor, despite only shooting 42% from the field. The game was won with smothering defense. Hopefully, games like this will become routine. For right now, though, I"m gonna dream.

    1. Pekovic should be an All-Star

This will be interesting in the West. DeAndre Jordan is a beast as well, and Pau Gasol is back. The West is pretty loaded with quality big men. At center, Cousins, Jordan, Pek, P. Gasol, M. Gasol, Howard, Bogut. Even Javale McGee, who is fun to watch. At PF, Duncan, Aldridge, Dirk, Love, Griffin (although the TNT guys are pretty down on him for not improving his game), Anthony Davis, Z. Randolph, David Lee.

the saddest note for me on the new season so far -- as much as I like Brian Shaw, it looks like the party is over in Denver. They are not the same fun-and-gun team that they were last year. Maybe it's because Faried is recovering from a hammy, maybe (he says, laughing) it's because Kostas Koufos got dumped to Memphis (for Darrel Arthur? really?). Or because they picked up Nate Robinson. Mostly it's because they lost Andre Iguadola, however. I mean, really, Randy Foye at the 2-guard? Anthony Randolph and JJ Hickson at the forward spots? Blech.

    2. Kevin Love's 55 points is the second most after 2 games of a season. KG had 65 to start the 1999-2000 campaign.

The defense last night was really encouraging. Players were making the correct rotations, making the right plays in help defense, and anticipating moves from Durant coming out of the double team. You may remember my grit score from yesterday being in the 80th percentile but even I was impressed by this teams effort on D last night.

  2. on a different NBA tack, it looks as though Nate Wolters might be a player in the league. Two games in, he has played 29:40 and 29:16, with 9 pts & 4 assists, and 14 & 6, respectively.

          1. More than one on the 40-(player) roster, just not more than one on the 25-player active list at one time, I think. Obviously, we need more distaff grit.

  3. Turiaf's diagnosis:

An MRI performed Saturday morning revealed a radial head fracture in backup center Ronny Turiaf’s right elbow. Turiaf will be re-evaluated next week to determine an approximate timetable for his return

    ...

The good news is that surgery will not be needed. But Turiaf is likely out at least a few weeks.

  4. To the parents of the Nation, do any of your children watch Fireman Sam?

Is it just me or is this kid, Norman, starting fires on purpose in an effort to the local fireman to fall in love with his single mother? Seems like pretty heady stuff for a kid. Also, why wouldn't they just lock this kid up? How many emergency calls does this kid have to create before the cost of locking him up in a juvenile detention center costs less than keeping a full time department staff that makes up 20% the population of the community? Lock up Norman Price and you can be strictly a volunteer fire department in Ponty Pandy.

Also, why doesn't my two year old understand all of this?

    1. Yes! I think we've outgrown that show (6 and 4 now), but I wrestled with some of those same issues whilst watching Fireman Sam. Also, I don't like that my kids immediately think of a firefighter when they hear the name Elvis.

  5. Craig Ferguson last night:
    .

I read that Alanis Morissette used to be vegan, and then she stopped when she got pregnant.

    Isn't that ironic? [laughter]

No, it's not ironic! Just like everything else in that song...ironically.

    1. If I had the B1G Ten Network, maybe I could tell you.
But you'll just have to investigate for yourself.

      1. that might have been the most exciting 10 minutes in the Big Ten Network's history
