Mexican Matchups: Games of 11/6

A tight game in Mazatlan.  A big eighth inning wins it for Los Mochis.  Sams clubs a homer for Guasave.

NAVOJOA 2, MAZATLAN 1 IN MAZATLAN

Navojoa:  Jose Chavez was 2-for-3.  Eddie Gamboa (Baltimore) pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, giving up five hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Mazatlan:  Bryan Petersen was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.  Ryan Mulhern was 2-for-3.  Horacio Ramirez pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits and no walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Navojoa scored on a sacrifice fly in the sixth and on an error in the seventh to take a 2-0 lead.  The lone Mazatlan run came in the eighth on an RBI double by Petersen.  Mazatlan got the tying run to third with two out in the ninth.

LOS MOCHIS 6, CULIACAN 3 IN LOS MOCHIS

Culiacan:  Andres Meza pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Los Mochis:  Juan Carlos Gamboa (Mets) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Sergio Perez was 2-for-4 with a double.  Edwin Salas struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing no hits and one walk.

The game:  Rodolfo Amador hit a two-out two-run triple for Los Mochis in the sixth to tie the score at three.  In the eighth, Roberto Lopez (Angels) hit a pinch-hit two-out RBI single to give Los Mochis the lead and Gamboa followed with a two-run double.  Spencer Patton (Kansas City) struck out the side in the ninth to preserve the victory.

GUASAVE 12, OBREGON 9 IN OBREGON

Guasave:  Kailin Sams was 3-for-5 with a home run (his fourth) and two RBIs.  Jesus Lopez was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Leonardo Heras was 2-for-3 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in two.

Obregon:  Agustin Murillo was 3-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer (his second), scoring twice.  Carlos Valencia was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer, his second.  Daniel Castro (Atlanta) was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Obregon had leads of 3-0, 6-2, and 7-5, which is where it stood after six innings.  In the seventh, Guasave scored seven times to take control of the game.  Jesus Cota had a two-run single and Ivan Araujo had a two-run double in the inning.  Obregon got two in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run up to bat with two out.

HERMOSILLO 8, MEXICALI 2 IN MEXICALI

Hermosillo:  Efren Navarro (Angels) was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Heber Gomez was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs.  Ryan Verdugo (Kansas City) struck out seven in six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks.

Mexicali:  Ramon Rios was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Ricky Alvarez was 2-for-4.  Sergio Valenzuela pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks.

The game:  A Jonathan Aceves two-run single put Hermosillo ahead 2-0 in the second, but Mexicali tied it at two in the third.  Luis Garcia hit an RBI double to put Hermosillo ahead in a two-run fifth.  Hermosillo got four in the eighth, two on a Navaroo single, to put the game out of reach.
