Venezuelan View: Games of 11/8

Eduardo Escobar keeps hitting.  A slow comeback for Zulia.  Not much drama elsewhere.

MARGARITA 6, ARAGUA 2 IN ARAGUA (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Twins:  Antoan Richardson (Margarita) was 0-for-3 with a run.  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) pinch-hit a sacrifice fly.  Ray Olmedo (Aragua) was used as a reserve and was 0-for-1.

Margarita:  Max Ramirez was 3-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Breyvic Valera (St. Louis) was 2-for-3 with a run.  Adam Duvall (San Francisco) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Aragua:  Alex Romero was 1-for-2 with a walk and a double, scoring once.

The game:  Margarita led 2-1 after one.  In the fourth, Duvall hit a two-run single to cap a three-run inning and make it 5-1.  Three walks led to a run for Aragua in the bottom of the fourth, but Ramirez homered to get the run back for Margarita in the fifth.

MARGARITA AT ARAGUA (GAME 2)

Rained out.

LA GUAIRA 14, MAGALLANES 7 IN MAGALLANES

Twins:  Yorman Landa (La Guaira) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

La Guaira:  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run, driving in four.  Alex Cabrera was 2-for-3 with a home run (his fourth), scoring three times.  Rafael Ortega (Colorado) was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.

Magallanes:  Robinson Chirinos (Texas) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in four.  Wilfredo Tovar (Mets) was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.

The game:  Miguel Gonzalez (White Sox) hit a three-run homer in the second to give La Guaira a 3-1 lead.  Each team scored four in the fifth, with Sanchez hitting a three-run homer for La Guaira and Chirinos hitting a three-run double for Magallanes.  It was 9-5 La Guaira after six, and a five-run seventh put the game away.  Cesar Suarez hit a two-run single in the seventh inning.

ANZOATEGUI 11, LARA 1 IN ANZOATEGUI

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 2-for-4 with a double.

Lara:  Guilder Rodriguez (Texas) was 2-for-3.

Anzoategui:  Leslie Anderson (Tampa Bay) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Cory Aldridge was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer (his fifth), scoring twice.  Mark Serrano (Arizona) pitched seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Anzoategui scored four in the second and six in the fourth to go ahead 10-0.

ZULIA 6, CARACAS 5 IN CARACAS (14 INNINGS)

Zulia:  Adrian Sanchez (Washington) was 3-for-3 with an RBI.  Henry Rodriguez (Cincinnati) was 3-for-7 with a double and three RBIs.  Daryl Maday pitched three shutout innings, giving up no hits and three walks with one strikeout.

Caracas:  J. D. Martinez (Houston) was 3-for-5 with a walk and two home runs (his second and third), driving in three.  Guillermo Moscoso (San Franciso) pitched three shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks.

The game:  Caracas led 3-1 after one and 5-2 after four.  Zulia scored single runs in the sixth, seventh, and ninth to tie the score, with Rodriguez singling in the tying run.  Ryan Lollis (San Francisco) hit an RBI triple with one out in the fourteenth to put Zulia in the lead.
