Cleveland at Timberwolves. 7:00 pm

After a pair of game at Staples Center, the Wolves return back home to play the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was only 10 games ago when these two teams played and in that game the Wolves were listless for 3 quarters before making a furious comeback in the 4th to make it close.

The Wolves are 3-1 at home, Cleveland has yet to win on the road. I expect those trends to continue tonight.

  1. oh boy, perhaps my prediction is on shaky ground

Kevin Martin did not take the floor for pregame warmups. He is battling flu-like symptoms.

  2. This looks better than the last time they played the Cavs, though Love isn't doing well against Thompson.

    1. from a tweet earlier today

      Wolves are best in the NBA in 1st quarters at +31.5 per 100 possessions. 26th in 2nd quarters (-19.2), 18th in 3rd (-5.8), 14th in 4 (+1.4)

      .

  3. I know this gets said quite a bit, but Jim Peterson is a terrific announcer. It's so nice to listen to a level-headed guy who knows what he's talking about.

        1. yeah. I mean, I bet he is pretty happy doing games for the local team and with his coaching position with the Lynx it probably helps the be around.

  4. FSN has got to learn not to cut away from the action after the Wolves make a shot. About the 5th time this year they have missed a steal/bucket because of the cutaway to the player who just made a basket.

    heady times Wolves fan.

    1. Hey Spooky, I was talking today at work and realized that if I could get in a movie with Kevin Bacon, I'd basically have the smallest Erdős–Bacon number in the world (tied with Carl Sagan). You need to help me make this happen.

  5. The Wolves have so many points in the paint that their 63% field goal rate doesn't seem unsustainable.

  6. that running dunk by Love just felt old school.
kind of like the pace of play the Wolves has been playing this year. Very 80's run and gun feel.

  7. If Martin was going to hit the gin and tonics, the night before this game seems like a good time for it.

  8. I have my doubts that Hummel will stay healthy, but he's looking surprisingly like an acceptably-average NBA player.

        1. This does have the feel of in 2009 when Favre would have the Vikes ahead by a wide margin, and they'd bring in Tarvaris for the last couple of drives.

          1. ...and I say that knowing that you bring in your second line in these situation, obviously. It's more the jarring transition from "OMG world-crushing greatness" to "yeah, these guys also play basketball for the team".

  9. the Wolves have topped 130 only 4 times in 25 years. And one was that 2OT game against OKC last year.

  10. I trust this Wolves team could hold a 30 goal lead for 4 minutes against any soccer team in the world. Pek! for goalie!

  11. As luck would have it, I've mostly been able to watch full games when the Wolves are on the back half of a back-to-back.

So... this is what they look like at full strength...

    1. the style of play is a joy to watch. free flowing, fast paced. and smothering defense. its so awesome to watch. AND the Wolves are getting victories

    2. I wanted to watch the whole game, but Elder Daughter came over for dinner and had a brake light out so I had to run to O'Reilly and get a bulb and get home and install it so I missed the first quarter. Heard some of it on the radio, Rubio is like the Feedmaster of the Universe, and picked it up on TV a few minutes into the second quarter. By then the game was more or less over except for all that time on the clock to run out. Color me impressed.
