SURPRISE 2, MESA 0 IN SCOTTSDALE
Mesa: Devon Travis (Detroit) was 2-for-4. Dallas Beeler (Cubs) struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on two hits and one walk. Jeff Urlaub (Oakland) pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.
Surprise: Henry Urrutia (Baltimore) was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run. Eduardo Rodriguez (Baltimore) struck out four in three innings, allowing two hits and no walks. Tyler Cravy (Milwaukee) struck out two in two innings, allowing one hit and no walks.
The game: Jorge Alfaro (Texas) singled in Urrutia to give Surprise a 1-0 lead in the second. That was how it stood until the eighth, when Mookie Betts (Boston) singled in Jonathan Schoop to make it 2-0. Mesa's biggest scoring threat came in the sixth, when they loaded the bases with one out. A popup and a strikeout ended the inning.
