CAROLINA 4, PONCE 3 IN CAROLINA

Twins:  Josue Montanez (Ponce) retired the only man he faced.

Ponce:  Jonathan Mota (Cubs) was 2-for-4 with two runs.  Henry Ramos (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Ivan De Jesus was 2-for-4.

Carolina:  Anthony Garcia (St. Louis) was 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.  Robinson Cancel was 2-for-3 with a walk and a triple, scoring once.  Yuya Iida pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  Enrique Hernandez homered to give Carolina a 1-0 lead in the first.  The teams each scored one in the second.  Cancel tripled and scored in the sixth to make it 3-1, but Jose Ruiz had an RBI single in the seventh to cut the lead to 3-2 and a Jon Garcia (Dodgers) RBI single tied it in the top of the ninth.  In the bottom of the ninth, a single by Anthony Garcia, a sacrifice bunt, and two wild pitches brought home the winning run for Carolina.

MAYAGUEZ 5, CAGUAS 3 IN CAGUAS

Twins:  Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Dereck Rodriguez (Mayaguez) was 0-for-2.  Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 0-for-2.  Ryan O'Rourke (Caguas) faced one batter, giving up one run on one hit.

Mayaguez:  Luis Figueroa (Washington) was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Michael Taylor was 2-for-4.  Jeremy Kehrt (Boston) pitched five innings, giving up three runs (none earned) on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Caguas:  Juan Silva was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Luis Mateo was 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs.  Fernando Hernandez pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Caguas scored three in the second on three singles and two errors.  It stayed 3-0 until the sixth, when an RBI single by Figueroa put Mayaguez on the board.  In the eighth, a three-run double by Chris Curley (White Sox) put Mayaguez ahead, and they got an insurance run on an RBI single by Rene Rivera (San Diego).  Caguas did not get a man past first after that.
