Mexican Matchups: Games of 11/19

Some blowouts in the Mexican League, including an eight-run inning!  Will anyone care about what Russell Branyan is doing in the Mexican League?

LOS MOCHIS 6, OBREGON 4 IN LOS MOCHIS

Obregon:  Agustin Murillo was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  Carlos Valencia was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Sergio Contreras was 1-for-3 with a walk and a homer, his second.

Los Mochis:  Gilberto Mejia was 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.  Jamie Johnson (Detroit) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a triple, scoring twice and driving in one.  Yancarlo Angulo was 2-for-4.

The game:  Los Mochis scored three in the second to take a 4-1 lead, but Obregon came back with one in the third and two in the fourth to tie the score.  Mejia homered in the sixth to give the lead back to Los Mochis and a walk and two singles produced an insurance run in the seventh.

MAZATLAN 5, NAVOJOA 1 IN MAZATLAN

Navojoa:  Carlos Orrantia was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Jose Chavez was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once.

Mazatlan:  Bryan Petersen was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Walter Silva pitched 6.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

The game:  Mazatlan took the lead with one in the first and took control with four in the fifth.  A single, a double, a wild pitch, another double, and another single resulted in the runs.  The lone Navojoa run came in the sixth.

CULIACAN 7, HERMOSILLO 1 IN HERMOSILLO

Culiacan:  Jorge Cantu was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Joey Meneses (Atlanta) was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Amauri Sanit pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Hermosillo:  Jesse Gutierrez was 1-for-3 with a home run, his eighth.

The game:  Culiacan took control early.  They scored two in the first, and a three-run homer by Maxwell Leon made it 5-0 after two.  Hermosillo scored its lone run in the sixth.

MEXICALI 13, GUASAVE 1 IN MEXICALI

Guasave:  Japhet Amador (Houston) was 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Mexicali:  Russell Branyan was 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a home run (his fifth), scoring twice and driving in two.  Ramon Rios was 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in one.  Edgar Osuna pitched 6.1 innings, allowing one run on four hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Mexicali only scored in two innings, getting five in the third and eight in the seventh.  The lone Guasave run also came in the seventh.  Mexicali sent twelve men to the plate in the eight-run inning, including a grand slam by Xorge Carrillo (Mets).
