Just want to wish everyone a happy and blessed Thanksgiving. Some of us may feel we have a lot to be thankful for, and others perhaps not so much. However, I think we can all agree, as the banners attest, that we are thankful for the WGOM. Best wishes to everyone.
agreed!
Thirded, happy thanksgiving everyone.
Here, here!
I big Hrbie wink and thumbs up -- enjoy your holiday, everyone
I'm thankful for everyone who makes this place a haven of sincerity, sanity, and silliness. Happy Thanksgiving, folks.
Not that I want to force work upon hj, but that's banner-worthy.
Al Roker has me convinced: NBC's current lineup is a high water mark in television history.
from Loudon Wainright, from Slate, via me, a Thanksgiving prayer:
Despite similar warnings, in the six years Slate has been publishing its guide to Thanksgiving political arguments, we have learned that many people still can’t resist. Many find themselves offering a version of Loudon Wainwright's Thanksgiving prayer: "If I argue with a loved one, Lord, please make me the winner."
Hey! I'm the only one who thinks the Washington football team's name should change!
No one bit at my "It's not the 'Notre Dame Fighting Micks'" argument.
So I'm back on the internet. Beer and Cribbage to follow, making things better. Just waiting for 11:30. You can drink then, right? I got a sixer each of Sierra Nevada Christmas, Deschutes Jubelale, and Schell's Snowstorm.
cribbage!!!
I got a sixer of the Jubelale as well. I was...disappointed. Ninkasi Sleigr, on the other hand, yumm.
Jubelale has been better in the past. 2013 was not a banner year.
Celebration wasn't the best they've ever done (the last two were excellent) but it was tasty. Hibernation was very good but it snuck up on me and I was three sheets before I knew it.
I remain a devotee of Alaskan Winter. I love me some Spruce Tips, apparently.
I adore Cribbage. I've played with kg and many CdL regulars online in recent years, and played a quick game with Conner Burke (Chubby Soup, for the CdL) while he was in line to pick up a PS4 two weeks ago. I'd play every day of my life if players were available. All three of my siblings, both my parents and my mother's parents all play regularly, though the game is 500 at my mom's place when there are more players.
Next year, I'm determined to make Thanksgiving matter, even if this company and US retail at large have decided it doesn't.
Alaskan Winter is one of my favorite seasonals, too. I introduced my little brother to it last Christmas, and now we share enthusiasm for that beer.
Pa loved to play cribbage. I never learned the game well enough in our time together, and I wish I had. When I was in Russia last summer I watched my friend's uncles play Nardil (backgammon), which got me thinking about learning to play a game that's got some universal appeal. So, I now have a backgammon board and a set of dominoes. I just need to learn how to play.
My dad taught me backgammon, my mom taught me cribbage and a dude in jail taught me how to play bones. Inspiration from every angle!
That's awesome, and would make for a great premise for a Fiction 59.
Count me as a cribbage lover as well. I put cribbage pro on my phone so i can play during my constitutionals.
Played Cribbage with Dad often when I was young and Dad played cutthroat even then. He's mellowed now... it makes the game go slower when you keep trying to make sure you got all your points, but when he worked shifts at the factory, they played on all the breaks and that was how they played then.
Played with Dad and Grandpa at deer camp when I was older. Now play with Dad and Dad-in-law at deer camp and with in-laws whenever we get together. Dad-in-law is recently retired and plays with his two youngest uncles very often. (both less than 10 years older, they passed him off as their baby brother when they were teenagers).
New brother-in-law-in-law also plays but hadn't in forever before joining the family.
Played "Captains", three handed over three games.
I cleaned up. Brother in law was skunked when he dealt, I skunked them (by 42) when I dealt. Dad-in-law won by like 10.
When I dealt, I had a hand of 14 with a crib of 24. I had already been ahead by nearly 20 or so.
dont know how it would work, but perhaps a WGOM Cribbage Tournament is in order
There's a good free site, so I'd be willing to mod the bracket if there was enough interest.
Hell yeah
I'm in.
Dido
mmhmm... I would approve of this.
cribbage is fun
I was at an advantage as a wee one in school because I was taught cribbage very early in life. adding and subtracting to 31 was easy.
I was the runner-up in the MSU cribbage competition my freshman year. Don't get many chances to play anymore, unless I'm around family (which is unfortunately too rare).
I messed up, I meant to say Anchor's Holiday, not Sierra Nevada's.
Schell's Snowstorm is a completely different beer every year, this year a Belgian Blonde with Spices. Tastes a lot like Leffe Blonde, which is good for me because I've been craving that all year.
I will be away from the internets for a couple of days, so there will be no further winter baseball updates until Monday.
Don't think we won't notice, Padre.
Now that Ricky Nolasco is in the fold, #twins are likely to turn their attention to Phil Hughes, says a baseball source.— Jerry Crasnick (@jcrasnick) November 28, 2013
Remember when Phil and Melky were supposed to be the return for Santana? Not that I want to think of Santana as a Yankee, but still...yeah, me neither.
My opinion of this is contingent on the details, but I think I'd rather the Twins sign Hughes for a couple years than Arroyo. A flyball pitcher leaving New New Yankme, who averages a 20% K rate, and who will be only 28 next season sounds like potential value, depending on the contract and his ability to stay healthy.
...and his ability to stay healthy.
Aye, the rub.
But Arroyo's got that funny kick: that's what I want.

So does mescal, but it's not worth it in the long run.
winner, winner, liquid dinner.
A thousand WGOM pesos* for that one, Twayn.
*roughly converts to 1 point
Took two hours to remove the old disposal and install the new one; significantly less if I didn't have to clean up the cabinet inside and put down new liner. Two words: Waste King™
We sell those, and I maintain it's one of the five best things we sell that nobody knows about.
Waste King 3200 here.
I want one of those so bad. We have the most ridiculously long drain pipe run from the kitchen at one end of the house to the main stack at the other, with three 90% turns (one vertical, two horizontal) to boot. Fortunately the pipe is all in unfinished basement territory so it's easy to access. Over the years I've cut the pipe in four strategic spots and put in rubber connectors so I can get the snake to the inevitable clogs wherever they happen to develop in the run.
Happy Turkey Day, my friends. Had a terrific meal with friends. Currently sleepy. Success!
I wasn't able to see any of it, but I watch an episode literally every night, so it probably isn't a big deal.
There was a new Muppets special last night, with Lady Gaga. We missed it.
DVR 😉
there was a ST:TNG marathon going on yesterday on, of all things, a BBC channel. I recorded three episodes (Redemption I & II!!!!111one111!!!, and something else).
BBC America shows TNG most every morning and Tuesday nights and chunks on Saturdays.
Yeah, it's a staple on BBC it seems.
Yesterday was also Adventure Time marathon, in honor of their new balloon in the Thanksgiving parade.
Saw an add for Chozen, from the people behind Archer. Funny because prison rape.

The Mrs. & I just got back from our Thanksgiving dinner, turned on the MST3K turkey day marathon just in time to catch the end of Final Sacrifice. Rowsdower!!
